This has nothing to do with recruitment. Can we move this thread?

Keith says the 21-year-old was arguing with a friend from a very wealthy family when the girl's mother intervened.

"She said (her daughter) should quit running with (my daughter)," said Keith, "because, she said, 'They're nothing but white trash with money, anyway.' My wife is very classy, and when she heard this she was mad — I mean MAD. She said, 'I'll deal with the mother.' "
Agreed. It doesn't even have anything to do with Greek Life.

According to Wikipedia, the comment was made by a girl to Keith's daughter. No mention of if the girl is in a sorority or not.

Considering Wikipedia also once said Reese Witherspoon was a Gamma Phi (which she ISN'T) I wouldn't consider that a reliable source.

The comment was made to Keith's daughter but no mention of a sorority.

This is my final argument. I am not intending to step on ANYONES toes, but my thoughts on this are that IF it WERE a sorority sister of ANY organization to say this, it was unprofessional. What is said behind closed doors is one thing, but for the initial post to say a sorority sister said that to her face, well I just find that hard to swallow. We build up greek life and try to point it away from the stereotypes, but who are we if we break it all apart in front of a PNM? I was a PNM at one time, and if a sister said that to me, I would have been heartbroken and crushed.

Yes, but the point is that this post started a mass hysteria with the implication that a sorority woman called a PNM WT, when in reality, two teens were fighting in their hometown and someone's MOTHER called the girl a name.

I agree and it is closed argument on my behalf. Sorry for the caused hysteria. I should have further researched the story before posting my feelings.

Watched Sunday Morning on CBS yesterday and in the interview with Toby Keith, he did say that the comment was made to his daughter while she was trying to join by a sorority girl.

She was 19 when she was a freshman. She was the tackiest little snot- she went to the school my parents teach at, and she had my dad's class.

I would think her being cut would have more to do with the fact that she's rude than the fact that she's new money.

Also, betting on the college she is at, since her dad lives in Norman, and so does her mother, I'm betting OU.

I hate to speculate, but I doubt that she would go anywhere but the University of Oklahoma. Toby Keith is a huge OU donor. He was very involved when I was in school there. However, I cannot speak to the reason she did not become part of the Greek system. OU's greek system is very southern in style and competitiveness, so that could also have something to do with it.

Do you mean your dad's high school class? B/C this post makes it sound like you don't know if your dad teaches at OU.

My dad teaches at OU as an adjunct and Norman North High School. However, I was refering to her being in his high school class. I haven't a clue what classes she took/is taking at OU.

Regardless of whether the comment was made by a sorority member, regardless of whether this story is true or apocryphal (or some combination of the two), regardless of this young woman's personality. . . would any of our groups' founders be pleased with some of the comments made in this thread? Is this the level of membership selection deliberations they envisioned?

It is the feeling of this one old, crusty alumna that it doesn't matter if it's behind someone's back or to her face. Rude comments are rude. It's not just a matter of "getting caught" making them.
