Does every chapter of Phi Mu use the slate process? It's just that I've noticed that this process discourages women to run for an exec position that they are interested in because someone else was slated. I think that the slate committee is ultimately making the decision for the chapter (I know that there are exceptions, but for the most part this is true). So, does any chapter not use slate and just has members run for a position off the floor?
Our chapter has used the slating process in the past, but has recently found it to be not of use since we are such a small chapter right now. I understand that in large chapters it can be very helpful, but for us, it was pointless.
Right now, we are fighting for the life of our chapter. We have five collegiate members - so please keep your fingers crossed for us for the *amazing* recruitment week we have planned! Hopefully I'll be posting great news come Sept. 14th.
We also use the slate process. Almost anyone who writes letters, though, does run off the floor. We only have 100 or so members, though (after our recruitment) so we all know each other pretty well. I don't know how neccessary the slate process is, but I don't think it hurts anything.
