did myspace get hijacked??
What the heck happened?
I went into my "sent" files to track a message I sent to a friend and I found that somehow, my account sent out like 10 messages with this:
Hey everyone!
48771029
I just made an account at this FREE dating website. Its got way less pointless crap than on MySpace. Check it out, and search for me, by joining with the link below.
48771029
Hot Singles at Amateur Match

pretty sweet, huh?

What the hell happened? It was not ME who sent those out!!!
It freaked me out so I changed my password.
The messages were not even to any of my friends, they were just random people.
???????????

Did you click on a link in someone else's bulletin? Did you download one of the tracker softwares?

I had one of those as well, and apparently I sent one to some blonde named Kristin who read my message.
For the record, I don't click on links or even open SPAM bulletins when I see them. There are no tracker links or codes in my profile (I just checked) and I've downloaded Flash 9.
When it comes to login redirects I tend to be cautious as well and I make sure that the login page is a real MySpace login page.
I'm not sure if it's something everyone got or if someone phished my info.

I've been afraid of that happening as well, as it appears a couple of people on my list had problems. Both had issues where dozens of bulletins were sent out under their names ("Check this link," or "Free Ringtones," etc.). I'm figuring it's a matter of time before something goes wrong with mine, although I'm not really on much lately.

I always always always caution my friends about double-checking the URLs for login redirects. I really think that that's how most people get their info phished, as opposed to just clicking on a link.
Those phishers I tell you, those login pages look so legit!

As far as I know, Myspace.com is my homepage, so I dont' think I logged into one of those fake sites.
=however= I got a message in my inbox a few days ago and when I opened it, my IE went crazy. I didn't recognize the person who sent it, so I think maybe that might have been it?
OTW- you mentioned something about tracker codes or whatnot in your profile... are those codes other people put in there to make your account do weird things like send out messages to random people?

Even though Myspace.com is your homepage, there are other ways you can get the fake logins. Say, for example, you visit someone's profile, and somewhere in that profile is a code that redirects you to a fake login page when you click on a link (Home, Browse, Search, Mail...for example). The only way to make sure is to doublecheck the URL.
And don't use IE anymore.
Tracker codes were created to track visitors, but once MySpace users went batshit crazy doing anything, clicking anything that might give them one that worked...a lot of phishers made new codes and falsely advertised them as trackers. Not sure what these codes really do, but you really shouldn't have em in there to begin with.
