I understand that many do not like him, but when does the entire country like the president?
He does his job, which I know I couldn't do, so I give him the respect he deserves.
I'm a registered independent but it helps that I voted for him! I don't agree with all he does but I would agree with Bush more than Gore, but I would still respect Gore if he had won.

Re respecting the president, I don't think that holding an organized, peaceful rally saying that you disagree with his policies is disrespectful. Disrespectful is throwing eggs and the like.

Honestly, I think that from the 60's on (and probably before that, there were a lot of FDR & Truman haters) that anytime a prez appears in public, especially at a university, there's a contingent protesting his presence. This is nothing new.

I was actually discussing this the other day about how disrespectful we are of the office of presidency. Back in the old days, way before I was born, there was a respect that is missing today. Now, we have this horrible show, "That's my Bush," nightly jokes, and just an overall hateful attitude. I think that the previous president just dragged his reputation and our country's through the mud. It's sad that people refer to him as a "playa." He's our president not some side show. I'm an independant, and I still have some respect for the office of presidency.

I agree with others that have said that you don't have to agree 100% with someone to respect them.

I believe that the President should be respected... I also believe that teachers, law inforcement officers, and parents should be respected. I think a lack of respect for people in general is one of the biggest reasons for the problems that we have today.

I think Greenville should welcome the extra attention that comes with a Presidential visit. Be mature, act honorably, and show the best side of your community. But I'm probably a little bias - I happen to like the guy.

Hey Thanks dzsweetie

Yeah, I think Jenna is Greek at Austin. That sounds like a nice idea. I know her mom is a Theta Alum and VP Dick Cheneys wife is a Theta Alum also. One of my brothers, Bob Grand, is one of the President's advisors. I definitely am a big fan of the President and I think he handled the China situation beautifuly. He might not be liked by all, but I strongly agree with what Alpha Chi said. We as a country should respect our leaders even though we may not agree with them. Sometimes its easy to play arm chair quarterback too when your not in the person's shoes.

Respect is earned-so that goes for the president, too. We vote for the office, so we have the right to express our opinion of what he is doing, at all times. By expressing our opinion, we affect what he does do, I would hope. That is the only way those of us who did not vote for him will affect how he does his job. I don't like a lot of the things he stands for and will express that every time that I have a chance. I think that it is my American responsibility, not disrespect.

All my girls from G-Vegas are fighting with me, even my old roomie!
Anyway, I never said that opinons were disrespectful, I meant that he is our President and no matter if you like the guy or not he is here for at lesat the next four years and does a job that none of us ran for, so maybe to think before you speak. I think some things can be said tactfully and not down right rude. I have said it before concerning opinons of chapters at your campus and I feel this is the same thing, you can say whatever you want, but that doesn't mean you should.
The reason I even said anything was Greenville never gets PR and Bush gave us as much as the flood did, so I think to be greeted with open arms would have been awesome, even if it was just to say thanks for the PR, maybe the PR could help all of us, ECU needs more students and our Greek System most definitly needs more PNMs!
So, anyway it turned out fine, Bush has moved on to other business and so have I.

I'm not fighting with you Lexi! I love you! I'm just not a big fan of the Republic party, that's all. But I do respect Bush and I do agree that ECU needs the publicity. It's good to have it in a somewhat small city like Greenville. I hope you're doing well Lexi!

It wasn't Clinton that ruined the presidency, it was Nixon. As for the Chinese incident, if that happen in US soil, the plane would have definately been shot down. Again, we are the biggest hypocrite in the world. We didn't like it when Russia did it with Cuba. But somehow it is ok if we do it to China using Taiwan.
