Please, Munch, please please please do NOT get the Bose dock - you're paying way too much for what you actually get. Bose sound quality is incredibly overrated - peep out some 'audiophile' sites for actual testing/rating information, but you can get comparable quality in an iPod dock for less money, or some incredibly sick stuff for the same price.

I just got a 2GB iPod Nano for my birthday. It has just under 400 songs on it right now, and it says it hold about 500. I was thinking about this the other day, but do I really need 60GB? I don't want video on it, I won't ever listen to 6000 songs. For me, it's just something to keep me occupied to and from work.

What's so bad about the black ones (other than the nasty finger prints all over them - yes I have a black one)?

I like the black ones more than the white ones personally.

I got my Ipod yesterday. It's the 30G black video ipod. It came with free engraving, a case and a mobile FM transmitter. I also have a portable speaker docking system (which I won at a raffle.) So.. I'm all set... and having a great time loading it up.

Question: I just got a new iPod, and I'm wondering if I need to back up all the songs I have on iTunes or if I can just plug my new one in.

Thanks

Your itunes should be set up to work with your current ipod. If you plug a new one in, it will open up a window asking if you want it to become the default computer for that ipod. If you click on yes, it should transfer your library over to that.

Okay also, I got an iHome, right? So you put your iPod in there and it's an alarm clock that plays your iPod. Cool, right? The thing is, it's kind of freaky, because I hit the snooze button a million times in the morning -- that means every ten minutes, I hear another snippet of the same song. Do you have any idea how much that messes you up for the rest of the day? Yesterday I was all GIRL YOU WANNA COME TO MY HO-TEL BABY I WILL LEAVE YOU MY ROOM KEY I'M FEELIN THE WAY YOU CARRY YOURSELF GIRL AND I WANNA GET WIT YOU CUZ YOU'S A CUTIE. Then today it's all YOU'RE SO CONTAGIOUS I CAN'T TAKE IT HAVE MY BABY LET'S JUST MAKE IT EXCUSE ME WHAT'S YOUR NAME YEAH CAN I GET MY GROWN MAN ON FOR ONE SECOND CAUSE I SEE SOME LADIES TONIGHT THAT SHOULD BE HANGIN WIT JAY-Z, JAY-Z SO HOT TO TROT!

I was an Ipod virgin until this Christmas as well. My SO got me the new Ipod shuffle. It's the perfect size for me. I'm training for an Ironman, which means I spend a lot of time riding my bike on the trainer in the winter, and running outside. I also have this weird thing where I CANNOT listen to music in order. It drives me bonkers. I have to listen to everything on shuffle. I don't really do the transportable media, I'm usually a reader, not a watcher. Once I heard that I could put podcasts on there, I was even happier (I subscribe to a triathlon podcast and the Shamrock and Thistle podcast from NPR). Plus you can turn off the "shuffle" function if you want to listen to it in order, and you can load it in order from Itunes. I like the simple buttons too...the screen would distract me if I was running.

Other cool thing was that sweetie had it engraved with part of my favorite psalm ("Create in me a pure heart...")

I'm the same way with listening to things on suffle. Back in the day, when I used a walkman with a running tape I made (CD players skip way too much for running, and they are too big) it was the WORST. I knew all the songs, and aproximately how long into the run I was. Then I would realize if my pace was really off, or if I had a hour run to do that I was only in 25min (I was a mid distance runner, I hated long runs).

I have the older version of the suffle and I still love it. But I'm looking at a nano for my car, since the FM transmitter thing is crap. Fords coming out with some new ipod attachement (that would have been included if i bought a more expensive car) that I'm looking to have installed soon.

That's funny about the shuffle.. me too! I always thought I would never use the shuffle option, but that's all I use now. I like when each album is mixed up and you never know what's coming next.

I'm absolutely addicted to my ipod. I use it at work, and I've found I write better when listening to music.

I've just discovered the free podcast downloads. I'm learning Spanish.

A few days ago, I read this entire thread. Didn't know I'd be needing help later!

I purchased my daughter the cute pink iPod nano for Christmas (4G). I loaded about 24 songs on there for ME but noticed that I only had about 1.97G left. So I finally got around to calling the Apple folks and I reset it. Seems like for some reason, the memory was wacky! So I took it back yesterday and got a refund. I will probably go ahead and get the 30G video iPod since as many of you have noted, you're getting about 7 times as much for $50 more.

What I wanted to know is has anyone else had a problem with the memory on their iPods? The Circuit City guy told me yesterday that he's seen one or two cases of this happening and it was with the pink iPod (don't know why he thinks the color had anything to do with it, but oh well). Next question - are there free areas for podcasts, etc.? As are a few of you, I'm an iPod virgin as well.

Thanks in advance!

Me too, until this xmas my bf got me 2G nano

BUT, the problem is, before he gave it to me, he d/l songs to this Ipod for me to listen. I got back home to transfer songs but I couldn't use Itunes because I'm still using a freakin Windows ME, lol. So I found this Itune window converted that can be used on ME, and I think it screwed up my settings because it won't recognize my Ipod. I took it back work to transfer since it has itunes, but it askes me to restore it. So I did, but it kept on asking me to restore it like thousand times. I took it back to my bf and he was able to transfer songs to it. Then I tried it at my work comp and it still ask me to restore

Now I'm confused...does it mean my ipod would only respond to my bf's comp?
