Very sorry things did not work out for you. Hopefully perhaps COR will bring a welcome outcome.

Since you're not Jewish, I'm sorry you were uncomfortable with people of a different faith. I know that many sororities were founded on Christian ideals but that doesn't present problems for sisters who are of Jewish, Islamic, Hindu or Bhuddist faiths from joining and feeling 100% at home. I may be off on this but I belive that one of the founding members of AOII was Jewish and founded a great sorority alongside her Christian sisters. For that matter, the badge of my sorority, Gamma Phi Beta has Hebrew letters on it and we're not a "traditionally Jewish" sorority.
I guess to each their own...

Ditto. When I went through recruitment there were also many Jewish women in the university's Pi Phi and ZTA chapters...

I'm not trying to be snarky, I just must have misread/misunderstood your quote from a previous post. Anyway, good luck to you with the rest of school and your future endeavours...

*hugs* I'm so sorry it didn't work out. I just finished reading the thread I was hoping you wouldn't get the phone call and was bummed when I scrolled down a little more. It will hurt now b/c you invested a lot of time into this process and will do so for the first few weeks. I have been there myself but know that there is something for you, whether in the form of COB, next year's recruitment if you choose or really just something else non-greek org related. In college your niche exists, you just have to find it and really look for it in order to appreciate it and enjoy it.
I really liked your thread, it was honest and heartfelt and really could witness all the emotions you were going and if anything it shows you gave yourself the chance to open up and be aware of everything around you the emotions effected by it.
Good luck in whatever you choose you will be fine.

None of our founders was Jewish. One of our founders may have had a Jewish father (conflicting stories) but the Jewish faith is passed through the mother, and this founder was a Christian and was active in a Christian group at Barnard. There is speculation that her Jewish heritage played a role in our founding though. That has never really been confirmed. Our founders were adamant, however, that religious preference play no role in inclusion in AOII.

My very best wishes go out to you in your years ahead at UCF. So sad to read your story and how your first rush turned out for you. As the mom of a pnm, I can only imagine how you feel. I can tell you are a strong young woman. Some other way or some other opportunity must be headed your way - let us hear from you later on. Good luck!

I'm sorry that happened. You'd think they'd give you a call ALOT earlier so you don't start getting ready to leave (which you probably were).

It very much hurt my feelings and I finally just had to hang up because I could not take it any more. I then took some Nyquil and went back to bed. But then yesterday when I woke up I was in a good mood because it was the first day of school. The only thing that was hard was seeing the new members in the bid day shirts and new member bags walking around campus. As happy as I am for them that they found their new home, it was equally as hard not to have found mine. I haven't decided what I'm gonna do yet, but have contacted a chapter about COB with them so we will see. My main focus this week will be school and making awesome grades for the long range goal of law school.

((((((hugs)))))) from one pre-law girl to another! A huge ditto to checking out COR and DG--I was a snap bid after I didn't sign a bid card, so it happens, and since I ended up in the right place, I'm sure there's one out there for you if you decide to pursue it. I hope you're doing well, and if all else fails, you're already ahead of most other fish in the school by having gone through recruitment and met a ton of amazing women! I hope this year will be a great one for you.

Well here's the revealing time!
1. Elizabeth - well after day one, I was very upset that I did not get an invite back from them...I loved it there and very much wanted to a sister.
2. Cindy - I was kinda sceptical going in, but I thought I really hit it off...however I was invited back to...
3. Debbie - This was my favorite GLO going into Recruitment and turned out to be one of faves all the way through. I think I was very upset by being turned down by...
4. Tammy - well this group I did really like, but wasn't sure if I fit in there but wanted to give it a shot. I thought I might be able to get invited back because I had to recs, but then I heard from herself that a triple legacy was cut after the second day from...
5. Aubrey - This group was amazing. They are huge and I really thought I wanted to check them out, however I was not invited back after day one to..
6. Lexi - This diverse group of women was one I thought I wanted to check out, but after the first day was not sure if it was for me. I guess they picked up on that even though I really wanted to be invited back to...
7. Katie - Straight away I knew I didn't belong but like the others wanted to give everyone a chance and I wanted to give ... a chance.
8. Scarlett - This was the second house I visited the first day and did not want to go back, but after I went back the second time I thought I could see myself as a...
9. Autumn - I ended up making it to pref rounds with this group and was VERY touched by their pref ceremony. I was already getting dressed to become a new sister of ... when I got the bad news.
10. Makynlee - this group I don't think I ever felt truly comfortable with. as much as I liked them, I felt like the minority since they were founded by jewish women and a lot of the women in this chapter are jewish. I found them to be awesome women as a whole, but did not felt I fit in at ... and did not want to dimish their sisterhood by putting them down.
|
It's obvious that Makynlee is AEPhi and I can honestly tell you that they would not have looked down on your for not being Jewish. They are amazing girls and would have welcomed you, honestly. A girl I used to go to Hebrew school with is actually one of their founding sisters at UCF.
I am Jewish and I'm one of 2 Jewish girls in my sorority and I never feel like the minority, so I think you would've felt the same once you were in it. If they do do spring rush, please check them out!

She's decided to leave the university after less than a semester, so it's a moot point. She will be leaving UCF as of Winter Break. Check the date of the posts-- you can catch yourself that way b/c sometimes people post updates elsewhere.

I see that now, sorry. It looked like the posts were from just a couple weeks ago so I wasn't sure if anything was concrete.
to the original poster, best of luck in whatever you decide to do. i have friends at fsu, uf and ucf and they all absolutely love their schools. some of them are greek, some of them aren't and many of them have rushed and been turned down, just like you. i actually have a friend at fsu that is going thru as a second semester junior for the local sorority up there. that may be an option for you, depending on where you go. best of luck in school and everything else! <3
