Last year I wore jeans and flip flops to church (also ELCA). It was Christmas! The girls next to me were complaining to their mom about why they had to dress up. I so knew how they felt. For years I was the over dressed one at church. Now, I figure I should fit in with everyone else.
Though I never wear jeans or flip flops to church (well, I hardly ever wear jeans and never wear flip flops period), I do wear denim skirts/jumpers/shirts at times during ordinary Sundays. However, for Christmas and Easter I wear one of my nicer dresses, hosiery (as compared to socks), nice flats/pumps, full make-up, and my hair nicely styled. On non-holiday Sundays, I dress much more casually, but still modestly.

At my school capris and a nice shirt are pretty much standard for women.
A new librarian at a regional library in our system got into trouble for wearing capri pants and moccasins one weekday. The chief supervising that library is VERY chic, though. I have worn capris on weekends- but they are nice aqua capris that are neither short nor tight.

*SANDALS WITH SOCKS=NO.

Somebody wore sandals with socks to work once or twice. However, she is from a foreign country. I have heard the stereotype about people in various countries (including that one) wearing sandals with socks.

*Unless you are pregnant, NO OVERALLS.

This mommy says NO to overalls, even WHEN pregnant.
Wouldn't overalls be highly impractical for pregnant women, given that they take longer to go to the bathroom when you are wearing them? I wear neither jumpsuits nor overalls for that reason- I go to the bathroom very often.

Really. I think people can by stylish wearing hush puppies. I believe they should only be worn with pants, and it all depends on the cut of the pant.
Depends on the style of the Hush Puppies. If they are the low heeled pumps I have, they are best for Sunday dresses or outfits you would wear for a job interview (including but not limited to suits).

*No elastic waist shorts or skirts unless you are pregnant.
I have a few drawstring pants/skirts. But I think what you mean is those really cheap looking ones that do not look good on anyone.

*Sweaters or clothing with cute animals on them (you know, the ones like your kindergarten teacher would wear).
I think of those only as an uniform to be worn only at certain jobs. I do not wear those ever- but the children's librarian at another regional wore those and they worked well for her.

*No Mary Janes.
