U of Memphis Tigers will go at least 7-5. We lost Deangelo Williams to graduation, but I think that we will be loaded, and we will beat Ole Miss on Labor Day eve.

By the way, Ohio State is the most overrated team. I can think of three to four teams that can beat the Buckeyes.

Actually, that sounds like us. We were so bad I don't think we could have cheated correctly if we had tried.

With Frank Solich in his second year as coach, we're hoping for improvement.

The Cornhuksters never cheated while he was there, did they?

I imagine Nebraska always cheats. But yeah, I don't see that cheating would work well for Ohio, I don't know that cars or cash is gonna pull guys away from OSU.

The other part is that in Ohio you also have Miami, Kent State, Bowling Green, Toledo, Akron, Cincinnati, Dayton, Youngstown State and a lot of smaller, private schools.

Within a very few hours drive, there's Michigan, Indiana, Pitt, Marshall, West Virginia and lots of others.

If you look carefully at Michigan's roster from year to year, you will also notice that they recruit heavily from Ohio as well.

It's tough to recruit for a school like Ohio, or any of the other public colleges in Ohio.

It wouldn't of mattered, we still couldn't of accomplished anything under Frank the Tank. There's about err, the entire state of Nebraska (minus a few trolls here and there) that's glad Frank Solich is no longer the head coach of the Nebraska Football Team.

This is what it looked like when Callahan took over. These were pics from the spring game 2003 and the results of Frank's recruiting. When BC was asked about the talent level now compared to where it was when he first got there he just said he wasn't going to discuss that issue. Cosgrove said when he first got here the players were "pencil necked." Not anymore. They won't win them all this year but you're not going to see this crap anymore. Those days are OVER.

Here's a picture of the type of guy Callahan is bringing to the team...

Now, with that said...I respect what Frank Solich did for the Huskers as a player and assistant coach under Osborne. However, he turned a National Championship contender into an average Big XII team. I give him the best of luck at Ohio, and offer this simple advice: Stay away from the booze, Don't blame your DUI on someone drugging you with GHB, and pay attention to road signs!!!

Yeah, thats true. Ohio is within a couple hours of some powerhouse programs. It must be tough for them, being a state namesake school and still not getting even close to a stranglehold of their home-grown talent.

3. Ohio Stadium (Ohio State)
4. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (Florida)
5. Beaver Stadium (Penn State)
6. Autzen Stadium (Oregon)
7. Kyle Field (Texas A&M)
8. Camp Randall Stadium (Wisconsin)
9. Doak Campbell Stadium (Florida State)
10. Jordan-Hare Stadium (Auburn)
And I'd just like to say that Florida State has WON at 6 of those stadiums, excluding our own Doak Campbell. We've never played at the remaining three, by the way - Oregon, Penn State, or Wisconsin.
Home advantage - we don't need no stinkin home advantage!

Nebraska's backup and annoited "golden child" for next year, Harrison Beck, disappeared from practice yesterday. The Nebraska rivals board went into a meltdown.

Here are some quotes from Beck's mom in an article from the Lincoln Journal-Star:

Quote:
Beck-Bothwell said from Florida her son has been frustrated because he’s not getting enough practice repetitions. She said junior Joey Ganz is receiving the brunt of the snaps behind senior returning starter Zac Taylor.

“It’d be different if (Beck) was sitting behind Matt Leinart or Brady Quinn,” Beck-Bothwell said. “Zac’s OK; I wish him all the best, but he’s just OK. The bottom line is, my son isn’t learning anything. He’s just on his own. If he got more time and attention from the coaches, he would be ahead of (Taylor). That’s just my opinion, but I’m his mother.

“He knows that playbook. It’s just an issue of not getting respect from the older players.”

“Maybe if he would’ve stayed in the SEC, he would’ve been playing,” Beck-Bothwell said. “Maybe he made the wrong decision, I don’t know.

“I know he has some growing up to do, but it’s not like he’s getting in trouble. He’s doing everything he’s supposed to do.”
The kid has done nothing to earn the respect of the older players. Everything I've heard from friends on campus is that the kid is the most immature person ever, he's far more concerned about his death metal band than football, and he hates Nebraska b/c he didn't really consider anything other than football when he committed - like the weather, class, etc.

Also, our top returning CB - one of Mel Kiper's top 25 for next year's draft - is out for the season after tearing his ACL. That pretty much ruined my day b/c our secondary is the weakest link on our defense (front 7 is going to be all world however). But at least he'll get a medical redshirt.

If Thompson can actually make some good in-game decisions, he'll be a good QB. If not, then we have problems, and a serious lack of depth.

As for the scandal -- do you seriously want to start comparing programs and their reactions to this type of thing? It turns out that Bomar, for example only received $2,000 or so in undue benefits. I can think of two players for other teams off my head who have received less in the way of penalties for similar infractions:

USC -- Jarrett received thousands in free rent from Leinhart's father -- 1 game suspension.

Ohio State -- Maurice Clarett, need I say more?

I'm not too worried though. The head of the NCAA has publicly announced that he was very impressed with how Stoops handled this. I don't think there will be any NCAA repercussions unless they can prove there was institutional involvement.

Big Red has since sold to a new owner, and the GM who did all of this has overnight become a local pariah.

Yeah , whoever said OU was going to get the death penalty is an idiot. They will never do that to an athletic program again. It completely destroyed SMU and it still hasn't been close to coming back.

Stoops handled the situation so well that I think the NCAA has to take that into consideration.

So Harrison Beck drove all the way home to FL over the weekend. He was apparently stewing about being placed as 4th string in meetings on Saturday. Some think that this was being used as a motivation technique...

It was pretty much assured that Beck thought he'd be coming back until he heard about the comments his mother made. Having heard those he knew that he couldn't come back and so asked for the release of his scholarship which was granted.

The sad thing is that those comments were supposed to be off the record, and the kids mom told the reporter that. He used them anyways to get the scoop, and pretty much ruined Nebraska's QB depth and this kid's current situation (what with school starting in two weeks). There are a lot of people angry at this sportswriter here in NE right now.

Could Oklahoma not get lack of institutional control?
