I have no idea about Delta Burke's sorority affiliation but supposedly her character on Designing Women, Suzanne Sugarbaker, was a Mississippi Pi Phi and such references are made throughout the show's airing.
It's so funny how these rumors are created and evolve!

Okay, how's this for irnoy.
I knew I had physically read the thing about Suzanne Sugarbaker so I remember tonight that the Arrow, Pi Phi's publication, had recently come to the house. Sure enough, in an article entitled "Pi Phi Fact or Fiction" it says the character refers to her days as a Mississippi Beta Pi Phi [in at least one episode].
The funny thing is this entire article is devoted to divulging truths about Pi Phi alumni and dispelling rumors.
Crazy :-)

I believe in one episode Julia said she was a Tri-Delta at Chapel Hill but had gotten kicked out for not wearing a girdle or something like that. However, Dixie Carter is really a Tri-Delta. I don't think Delta Burke went to college.
Kate Jackson said something about the "Kappa" house or being a "Kappa" in one episode of "The Scarecrow & Mrs. King," but she never said "Kappa Kappa Gamma." Kate Jackson is a KKG from Ole Miss--I saw her composite picture!

Where has the summer gone? Here at Alabama Recruitment Workshop begins next week with Recruitment the following.
Sending out my best thoughts and well wishes to all the other Advisors and Alumnae volunteers who give their precious time to help out with Formal Recruitment. Certainly this is a difficult and stressful time for the collegians, but folks often forget how hard it is on the alums who help out. We take time away from our families, stay at the sorority until the wee hours of the morning, go home to get some sleep, get up to get kids off to school and/or get to work, go back and do it all again.
It's difficult physically and emotionally, but we do it because we love our sororities. I for one feel the alum volunteers are the unsung heroines of Recruitment!

Zillini, I hope you will tell us about what's going on at the University of Alabama - how many sign up, etc. Good luck!
By the way, what happened last year when so many NMs did not show up on Bid Day?

Don't worry folks, I'll be reporting in with regular updates about U of Alabama. As of yesterday 8/9 there were 1,341 PNMs signed up. That's already 129 above last year's total and we're still 6 days away.
Recently we received notice that Panhellenic has increased the number of parties because of this:
1st round Open House: 22 parties (up from 18), 1st day 12 & 2nd day 10
2nd round Philanthropy Day: 11 parties (up from 10 I believe), long day
3rd round Skit Day: 7 parties (up from 6)
Pref Night: 3 parties (no change)

Hey Zillini,
Thanks SO much for replying. Now that daughter has graduated, I hear very little inside info about Alabama's recruitment.
1,341-OMG!!!! That's more than Auburn. Unbelievable! If there are 15 sororities, how do you have 22 parties? I wish UA would consider bringing in another group. Where they would put a house, though, I don't know.
And what was the reasoning for all the Bid Day no shows last year? Did they eventually show up?

Oh my gosh! I know some will drop or get cut, but what will that many PNMs do to quota and/or total? I think alot of the sororities at Bama took in the low 60's last year...will it be in the 70's this year, or does the cut percentage go up??

I just called the UCF Greek Life and they said that the number of pnm's is approaching 700. I'm still thinking OMG!!!! I know this is not as big as an SEC school, but with 10 chapters (there are 11 chapters, but one is not participating in formal recruitment) thats quota of like 70 (without drops, cuts, and such). People can still sign up and you can even sign up at the information meetings so the number can still go up!
