They should be pretty good, most preseason polls have them top 20 if not top 15 I believe. They did very well on recruiting last year.

SEC! SEC! SEC!

I predict that Kentucky will not win the SEC. Nor the Eastern Division of the SEC. If Providence is with the Cats, we may be fortunate to make a bowl game. Most likely in some forsaken place. But what the hell, the fans in the stands always have a hell of a good time.

GO CATS!

Comparison of Northern and Southern Football

WOMEN'S ACCESSORIES
North: Chap stick in back pocket and a $20 bill in the front pocket.
South: Louis Vuitton duffel with two lipsticks, water-proof mascara, and a fifth of bourbon. Money not necessary; that's what dates are for.

STADIUM SIZE
North: College football stadiums hold 20,000 people.
South: High School football stadiums hold 20,000 people.

FATHERS
North: Expect their daughters to understand Sylvia Plath.
South: Expect their daughters to understand pass interference.

CAMPUS DECOR
North: Statues of founding fathers.
South: Statues of Heisman Trophy winners.

HOMECOMING QUEEN
North: Also a physics major.
South: Also Miss USA.

HEROES
North: Mario Cuomo.
South: Paul "Bear" Bryant.

GETTING TICKETS
North: 5 days before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus and purchase tickets.
South: 5 months before the game walk into the ticket office on campus and put name on waiting list for tickets after you donate $5K to the Athletic Fund.

FRIDAY CLASSES AFTER A THURSDAY NIGHT GAME
North: Students and teacher are not sure if they are going to the game, because they have classes on Friday.
South: Teachers cancel Friday classes because they don't want to see the few hung over students that might actually make it to class.

PARKING
North: An hour before game time the University open the campus for game parking.
South: RVs sporting their school flags begin arriving on Wednesday for the weekend festivities. The really faithful arrive on Tuesday.

GAME DAY
North: A few students party in the dorm and watch ESPN on TV.
South: Every student wakes up, has a beer for breakfast and rushes over to where ESPN is broadcasting "Game Day Live" to get on camera and wave to the idiots up North who wonder why "Game Day Live" is never broadcast from their campus.

TAILGATING
North: Raw meat on a grill, beer with lime in it, listening to local radio station with truck tailgate down.
South: 30-foot custom pig-shaped smoker fires up at dawn. Cooking accompanied by live performance by "Dave Matthews Band," who come over during breaks and ask for a hit off bottle of bourbon.

GETTING TO THE STADIUM
North: You ask "Where's the stadium?". When you find it, you walk right in.
South: When you're near it, you'll hear it. On game day it becomes the state's third largest city.

CONCESSIONS
North: Drinks served in a paper cup, filled to the top with soda.
South: Drinks served in a plastic cup with the home team's mascot on it. Filled less than halfway with soda, to ensure enough room for bourbon.

WHEN NATIONAL ANTHEM IS PLAYED
North: Stands are less than half full, and less than half of them stand up.
South: 100,000 fans, all standing, sing along in perfect 3-part harmony.

THE SMELL IN THE AIR AFTER THE FIRST SCORE
North: Nothing changes.
South: Fireworks, with a touch of bourbon.

COMMENTARY (MALE)
North: "Nice play."
South: "Dammit, you slow sumbitch - tackle him and break his legs!!"

COMMENTARY (FEMALE)
North: "My, this certainly is a violent sport."
South: "Dammit, you slow sumbitch - tackle him and break his legs!!"

ANNOUNCERS
North: Neutral and paid.
South: Announcer harmonizes with the crowd in the fight song, with a tear in his eye because he is so proud of his team.

AFTER THE GAME
North: The stadium is empty way before the game ends.
South: Another rack of ribs goes on the smoker. While somebody goes to the nearest package store for more bourbon, planning begins for next week's game.

Pretty good post.....but please change Dave Matthews Band on Southern Tailgate Entertainment.

Also failed to mention the fraternity house scene on gamedays in the South. Open bars, tremendous amounts of food....tons of alumni and family, hundreds of fellow fratters and sorostitutes.....all starting early in the a.m. after a long previous night of band parties and hefty bar tabs.

On a side note. We win the Big XII South after beating OU in the Shootout by pummeling their anemic offensive line and exploiting their defense that will rely solely on two good LB's. We then play Nebraska or Colorado as usual in the Big XII Championship and gain an automatic BCS bid.

I'm gonna be biased, and predict Auburn to win the west, and then beat Tennessee in the SEC championship game. I think Florida and LSU are both mediocre, each winning 9 games. The SEC championship will get Auburn to the BCS, with an overall record of 12-1. I think that nobody of note will go undefeated, so having one loss may get them to Tempe (NC game, not fiesta), especially considering the fiasco of 2004. I think the 5 teams in the national title mix will be Texas, Ohio State, Auburn, Miami and West Virginia. Hopefully Auburn doesn't lose to Washington St., in which case my plan is obviously destroyed.

Penn State isn't on the schedule. Ohio State has to go to Texas and Iowa, as well as taking on Penn State and Michigan at home.

Good luck with what? OU is going to be slightly better than they were last year barring Peterson stays healthy. One bad turn or tackle on that shredded ankle of his and its going to be major trouble. Noboby knows what Rhett Bomar is going to do either. He was virtually untested last year and pretty much only won the games that OU should have, minus TCU.....which was a joke....and please don't say Oregon was a huge upset because they obviously cared nothing about the Holiday Bowl and pretty much sucked. I couldn't really tell anything good about him in the Texas game because he was flat on his back for most of it.

OU's defense will be good, for sure. Rufus Alexander and Latimer are good for sure at the Linebacker spots and DJ Wolfe is a solid DBack. They are also returning 5 other lettermen. We however, return our full offensive line minus one and 8 other starters on offense. Quan Cosby, Pittman, and Limas Sweed will certainly be one the best wide receivers in college football....which goes along nicely with our 1-2 running back punch of Jamaal Charles and Selvin Young....who have been rated preseason as the best backfield in the country. Our experience line will give Colt McCoy plenty of time to throw. Yes, he lacks experience, but he has a strong arm and got to learn for a year under the most prolific QB in college football history.

Nevermind the fact that our defense returns 7 which includes the full defensive line. Tim Crowder is a lock to be a top 3 draft pick, Henry Melton is replacing Rodrique Wright on the d-line....and allthough he was a consensis all-american....we all saw what Melton did to opposing defenses when he had the ball last year. The guy is a freak of nature. He will go along nicely with Brian Robison and Frank Okam. Michael Griffin is a preseason Nagurski candidate at safety. Two returnig starters at LB, allthough it will be tough to top the level that Cedric Griffin and Michael Huff set last year as the best backfield defenders in the country. Aaron Ross and Terell Brown are both badass CB's. We also have Sergio Kindle, the number 1 LB recruit in the country.

Defensively - Ive got to say we are both about even. Texas has the better line, OU has more experienced LB's.

Offensively - I just don't think OU has the personell besides Peterson....and youre offensive line is absolutely horrible. You lost everyone, face it. One returning wideout who didn't get the ball at all last year. With a good line, things will come easy to Colt McCoy, he has a cannon for an arm and is damn fast, rushed for over 1000 his senior year HS. Yes, Vince Young was a God....is Texas going to run a triple option this year....no.....which is promising becasue many areas of our game have become better even since last season.

I should also point out that we signed 11 Rivals Top 100 recruits. The rest of the Big XII signed 4 combined. To put that into perspective...the SEC signed 20 Top 100 recruits collectively.

You make some good arguments, but some of these things remain to be seen. First, the o-line is a HUGE question mark for OU. I still consider July to be a bit early to jump to conclusions as to how good or bad they will be. Kevin Wilson, the new OC might actually whip them into shape. I think Wilson will do a little better than Long as far as playcalling -- I want to see the draw plays out of the shotgun ended -- hate 'em.

As far as the OU O-line is concerned, they also lost a great blocker in J.D. Runnells (Fullback), so we'll see how that shapes up. I agree, they have a lot of work to do before October.

The OU WR corps is one of the better ones out there. Although they are young, they are absolutely loaded with talent. Malcolm Kelly, for example is as good as they come -- not to mention two Tight Ends who run well, block well, and are over 6'6" each.

Saying Texas' d-line is that much better isn't very accurate. I'd say OU's d-line is as good, if not better. Granger, the #1 DT prospect from '04 will be in the rotation for sure, there's Pendleton, and unless he takes the redshirt, we'll see the #1 DT prospect for '05 also in the DT rotation -- Gerald McCoy. At DE, we'll see Birdine back, as well as AhYou. I think that every player on OU's D-line has a good shot at not only playing in the NFL, but going pretty high in the draft.

The secondary will be a strength of OU's this year. I expect great things.

If the O-line starts playing well early, I fully expect to see an OU win over Texas this October.

-- how quickly you forget 5 in a row...

As usual? That's pretty interesting considering you aren't usually in the Big XII Championship Game.

Well, its only been around for 10 years....and we are tied for the lead in appearances with Oklahoma with 4........so yeah, pretty much either us or Oklahoma has USUALLY been in the Big XII Championship every year.

We have played Colorado and Nebraska twice in our 4 appearances....so we USUALLY play them when we make a Championship appearance.

Thanks for your input.

A little defensive. All I was saying was that the Big XII has a lot of talent and it's not always the same teams

In fact, Oklahoma has made 5 appearances, followed by Texas with 4. Colorado, Kansas State and Nebraska have all appeared 3 times.

Trust me, with my allegiances, I don't talk football trash. Now, maybe if I can find a thread on wrestling or women's equestrian...
