YAY!! I am SO glad to see this thread, I am a HP JUNKIE!!

HP is my life...I'm a young adult and sometimes children's librarian, complete with requisite Master's degree. Never in my life has there been such a phenomenon in children's publishing. Because of HP. kids are putting down their PlayStations and reading! They're using their imaginations and discovering that maybe reading isn't so bad after all (which is good, 'cause if they didn't like to read, I"d be out of a job). I myself am not a fantasy reader, but Rowling's perfect balance of plot, character, and setting make these books highly accessible to everyone. Most of the characters' names are from mythology and folklore, which makes it all the more interesting for the older reader. The books teach important lessons in life without being preachy (notice that Harry always does what's right and what will benefit the most people, even when tempted by evil), and OOOOHHH I could just go on for HOURS. But I won't.

It's great to see that all of you have given these books a chance. They're really not just for kids.
