Shellac - Prayer To God
This is an angry FU song if your girlfriend cheats on you. It's pretty funny ( in a not funny way).

To the one true God above:
here is my prayer -
not the first you've heard, but the first I wrote.
(not the first, but the others were a long time ago).
There are two people here, and I want you to kill them.
Her - she can go quietly, by disease or a blow
to the base of her neck,
where her necklaces close,
where her garments come together,
where I used to lay my face...
That's where you oughta kill her,
in that particular place.
Him - just fucking kill him, I don't care if it hurts.
Yes I do, I want it to,
fucking kill him but first
make him cry like a woman,
(no particular woman),
let him hold out, hold back
(someone or other might come and fucking kill him).
Fucking kill him.
Kill him already, kill him.
Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Just fucking kill him! Fucking kill him,
Fucking kill him already, kill him.
Ah Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Kill him already, kill him already
Kill him, fucking kill him.
Just fucking kill him, fuckin kill him,
Kill him already, kill him.
Fuckin kill him, kill him,
Fucking kill him already, kill him.

Kill him, fucking kill him,
Kill him, just fucking kill him.
Kill them already, kill them already,
Kill him.
Amen.

This song got me through some rough times last year.

Wonderful, Annie Lennox:

I wanna have you
'Cause you're all I've got
Don't wanna lose you
'Cause it means a lot
All the joy this world can bring
Doesn't give me anything
When you're not here ...

Idiot me
Stupid fool
How could you be
So uncool?
To fall in love with someone who
Doesn't really care for you

It's so obscure...

But I feel...
Wonderful
Yes I feel...
Wonderful

God it makes me be so blue
Everytime I think about you
All of the heat of my desire
Smokin' like some crazy fire
Come on here
Look at me
Where I stand
Can't you see my heart burnin'
In my hands?
Do you want me?
Do you not?
Does it feel cold baby?
Does it feel hot?

I wanna hold you
And be so held back
Don't wanna need you
But it's where I'm at
Thinkin' bout you every day
How come I was made that way?
It's so surreal...

But I feel... wonderful
Yes I feel ... wonderful

One More Minute or You Don't Love Me Anymore(?) by Weird Al. Not sure about the second song title.

Some great snippets:

"I'd rather rip out my intestines with a fork, then watch you going out with other men" (One more min.)

"I guess I lost a little self-esteem, when I heard that you mated with the whole hockey team" (You Don't Love...)

This is more for when you realize your EX moved on. . . cause lets face it, they should never really get over us right?

Expose "I'll never get over you, getting over me"

I hear you're taking the town again
Having a good time.
With all your good time friends.
I don't think that you think of me.
You're on your own now.
And I'm alone and free.
I know that I should get on with my life.
But a life lived with out you could never be right.

As long as the stars shine down from the heavens.
Long as the rivers run to the sea.
I'll never get over you gettin' over me.

I try to smile so the hurt won't show.
Tell everybody
That I was glad to see you go.
But the tears just won't go away (won't go away)
Lonliness found me.
Looks like it's here to stay.
I know that I ought to find someone new.
But all I find is myself always thinkin' of you.

As long as the stars shine down from the heavens.
Long as the rivers run to the sea.
I'll never get over you gettin' over me.

oh... No matter what I do.
Each night's a lifetime to live through.
I can't go on like this. (I need your touch)
You're the only one I ever loved... oh.

And as long as the stars shine down from the heavens.
Long as the rivers run to the sea.
I'll never get over you gettin' over me.
I'll never get over you gettin over.
Never get over you... gettin over.
I'll never get over you gettin' over me.

Randy Rogers Band, "Somebody Take Me Home"

Same old bedroom floor
Some old empty sheets
I hate this haunted bed
So down here is where I sleep

I tried to find a place
To hide what you had left
Somethings never change
My heart hasn't yet

I don't wanna go out tonight
Yeah but I can't be alone
Standing underneath this broke street light
Can somebody take me home
Somebody take me home

The hope that we had left
I wrapped around your ring
That river just rolled on by
When I watched it sink

I don't wanna go out tonight
Yeah but I can't be alone
Standing underneath this broke street light
Can somebody take me home
Somebody take me home

Out of this bar, out of this heartache
Out of this world, I just keep breaking down
I keep breaking down

I don't wanna go out tonight
Yeah but I can't be alone
Standing underneath this broke street light
Can somebody take me home
Somebody take me home

"The Curse" by Dwight Yoakam is my alltime favorite breakup song!

Don't you sleep.
Don't you have a single moment's peace
Just walk through the darkness with fears that are deep
And don't you even sleep

Don't you smile.
Don't you have happy thoughts for a while
'Til teardrops and sadness both go out of style
No, don't you even smile

These are the things I wish for you
Deep in my heart how I hope they come true
And then you'll know when bad turns to worse
What it's like to live under love's curse

LOVE that song. What a good one! Had forgotten all about that.

Maybe we should do a thread on best new relationships songs? I just made one in my itunes. :-)

There's no thread on "best new relationship songs" because "Good Weekend" by Art Brut is far and away the champion in that category, rendering the thread worthless.

Julie Roberts ... Break Down Here (just a lil depressing)

Mile marker 203
The gas gauge leanin on the edge of E
I'll be danged if the rain ain't pourin down
Somethin smokin underneath the hood
It's a-bangin and a-clangin and it can't be good
It's another 50 miles to the nearest town
Everything I own is in the back in a Hefty bag
I'm outta cigarettes and I'm down to my last rag

[Chorus:]
I'd sure hate to break down here
Nothin up ahead or in the rear-view mirror
Out in the middle of nowhere knowin
I'm in trouble if these wheels stop rollin
God help me keep me movin somehow
Don't let me start wishin I was with now
I've made it this far without cryin a single tear
I'd sure hate to break down here

Under fifty-thousand miles ago
Before the bad blood and busted radio
You said I was all you'd ever need
Love is blind and little did I know
That you were just another dead-end road
They were pretty lies and broken dreams
Baby leavin you is easier than bein gone
I don't know what I'll do if one more thing goes wrong

[Repeat Chorus Twice]

It's to late to turn around
I'd sure hate to break down here

Mile marker 215

I can't believe that no one has mentioned this song. It's an oldie by the Platters:

"They asked me how I knew
My true love was true
Oh, I of course replied
Something here inside cannot be denied

They said someday you'll find
All who love are blind
Oh, when your heart's on fire
You must realize
Smoke gets in your eyes

So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed
To think they could doubt my love
Yet today my love has flown away
I am without my love

Now laughing friends deride
Tears I can not hide
Oh, so I smile and say
When a lovely flame dies
Smoke gets in your eyes
Smoke gets in your eyes "

And once I'm done being sad, or if I skip straight to angry: Cheating by Jettingham, but only the last verse because that's what you feel like doing after a cheating bastard breaks up with you on Valentines Day.

"I said I wasn’t cheating then I began repeating
The abundance of redundance flooded her head
And she said “If I’m leaving with a broken heart
You’re leaving with a bleeding nose.”
This is the last time you’ll see me
Check your mood ring ‘cause I’ll bet it’s green
Check our cash flow and I’ll bet it’s low
Check your sex toys, check your playboys
Check all your things yeah
I bet they’re destroyed
Cause I’m a jackass."

Not sure if these are on here already but

What Might've Been-- forgot who sings it
Best I Ever Had- Vertical Horizon
Take a look at me now- Phil Collins
Skin- Alexz Johnson (yes Instant Star)
Hello Lonely- Theory of a Deadman
Over and Over- Nelly and Tim McGraw
All Cried Out- Allure

And if you're from Southeastern Michigan you may know of a band called Rusty Lunchbox... pretty much their whole first CD is a breakup CD. It got me through LOTS of hard times. (not to mention that the lead singer is on his way to LA right now for his 2nd audition to become Fuel's new lead singer... it's down to 12 or 14 people right now!)

eta: here are part of lyrics from one of their songs

cuz all my life i
thought i found
the one true thing
that won't let me down
you set me up
just to knock me down
and i can't change
the way i feel
now-

I've always been known for my breakup mixes. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing.. Anyway, here was some of the playlist of the last CD I made:

"Song for the Dumped" and "Selfless, Cold, and Composed" by Ben Folds Five
"You're Having the Time of My Life" by Jets to Brazil
"Why Did You Mess With Forever?" by John Mayer (Live recording.)
"Better Off Without You" by The Clarks
"#41" by DMB
"Perfect" by the Smashing Pumpkins (Really only good if the breakup was for outside reasons..)
"Hound Dog" by Big Mama Thorton (Not the Elvis Presley version. She's angry and it's great)
"Bleeding Me Dry" by Bain Mattox
"Queensboro Bridge" by David Mead
"23" by JEW
"Lover's Greed" by Jump, Little Children
"She Paints Me Blue" by Something Corporate ("I can't lie/that I've relied on you/Like yellow does on blue")
"Motorcycle Drive By" by Third Eye Blind
"Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2
"Two Points for Honesty" by Guster
