Here are 3 different emails -- one from National VP Marsha Grady (who lives in Iowa City), one from National VP Kathy Felt (an alumna of Sigma Chapter), and one from the CP of Sigma Chapter. I think that we are very blessed that all our sisters are safe & that we have such a great outpouring of spirit & support from our sisters, other Greek members, and the community around the campus:

An e-mail from Vice President Marsha Grady about the situation

- Girls are all moved in to the FIJI house. We were able to salvage almost all of our dressers, mattresses and desks, which we have moved to the FIJI house. Much needed since a fraternity's idea of "furnished" is different from ours.

- HD and household staff have reported to duty.

- We had a joint collegiate, parent, alumnae meeting tonight. The parents love us. The alumnae are mobilized.

- other Greek groups are providing meals for us (lunch and dinner) for the next two weeks

Kathy Felt:

Hello all--
I just returned from spending the day in Iowa City at Sigma Chapter. As many of you know, this is my chapter. Thankfully, Marsha prepared me, telling me that it was beyond anything I could possibly imagine. To say that it looks like a war zone is an incredible understatement!

I thought I would let you know what is happening now. There has been such an outpouring of help--and that revives the spirit! Perfect strangers stopped by offering their muscle power. The Greek community has supplied their manpower and helped move the salvaged furniture to the temporary facility (the old FIJI house). The Salvation Army was there every hour or so with sandwiches, water, and other food. Other sororities have signed up to provide food for our dinners next week, and some came by with toiletry supplies. There were some Iowa City alums who were there all day, as well as yesterday. There was also an alum from Chicago who drove out the minute she heard. I was also able to see several members who were in the chapter when I was, so that is an unexpected pleasure. Thank heavens, too, for husbands! For them to give up their free time on a lovely spring day to help out with things important to their wives is amazing (but then I guess our Alpha Chi husbands just do that)!

One Des Moines area Sigma alum has set up a wish list at Target for anyone who is interested. She felt that was her best way to help from afar. We can pass this information along to anyone who asks.

The bottom line: we will make it. The house will obviously be different than what we know for our centennial in 5 years, but it is not the physical house that makes a chapter--it is the members. Our members are here--helping, supporting, building.

Kathy

Hello Ladies,
It's Leslie Jensen, President of Sigma Chapter at the University of Iowa. As you all know and probably have seen pictures our home, that it was completely destroyed. We have had an amazing out reach from across the country and I just wanted to thank everyone for the e-mails and thoughts! It is so appreciated in this time of need. We were very lucky that there was a vacant Fraternity house that we were able to move immediately into and our IFC and Panhell was amazing and helped us move everything. Right now we are trying to take in stock of what we have lost and are trying to figure out where to live next year. If anyone is interested in helping us, we have a wish list set up
at Target.com and it is under wish list "Alpha Chi Omega Sigma" also gift cards are great too as I am sure that we will forget something that we need and remember it later. But thank you all so much for your amazing support.

Thanks again,
Leslie Jensen
Chapter President
Sigma Chapter
