^^^Good article, James! Sad to see yet again that Americans are falling behind though.

My grandfather (currently 89) only started slipping five years ago or so. Until then, he could still take me in a fight! LOL! And, I'm not a small bit of girl.

But, about five years ago, his mind started going. His body soon followed and he began to exhibit signs that I would call elderly:
  • Increased forgetfulness
  • Limited mobility
  • Weakness
  • Lessened ability to heal
...etc...

On that last one, his dog tore off a bit of his leg muscle as he was trying to break up a fight between that dog and another. This was a little more than five years ago and he truly healed quickly and well. That I attribute to the level of medical care he received (they grafted muscle from his rear end, I believe, but I'm not sure) and his level of fitness at the time. He was a boxer in his youth and maintain good health throughout his life.
