Some schools here require that a freshman spend at least a year on JV. I like that--it keeps seniors from being dumped off a sport they've been faithful to for years, gives freshmen something to look forward to, and prevents burnout.
Some of the JV competition squads in this area are far better than some of the varsity squads.
