2006 College baseball season...
Began last weekend (I believe) with defending National Champions Texas going 0-3, most of the rest of the powerhouse teams in the country get going this weekend. Personally I just got back from South Carolina's season opener against Elon...which the Cocks won 5-4 in 11 innings. Pretty good performance by several members of the #1 recruiting class in the country (including Reece Havens and Justin Smoak)
My prediction for the 2006 National Champion...The University of South Carolina (of course)

Going to be interesting for my Huskers this year.
Have to replace a lot of Upperclassmen including last year's consensus player of the year and #2 overall draft pick Alex Gordon.
Good news, we have our top two weekend starters returning. Joba Chamberlain came back to school 25 lbs lighter which is good, and Johnny Dorn seems fully recovered from elbow surgery. Both were named third team Pre-season All-Americans by Baseball America (I think).
Bad news: both of our top freshman from last year are injured for most of the season. One was the Regional MVP and also named to the All CWS tournament team...he finished very, very strong.
I'm sure that ESPNU is going to have a bunch of games on this season, I just hope that ESPN and ESPN2 play some regularly. It was really awesome last season having so many games on.
And finally, I'll probably be in Omaha during CWS time, which I have only seen from afar (well 55 miles west in Lincoln - although I did see a game back in 2004). Should be a great time.
Anyone pick up the NCAA MVP baseball game from EA? It's only 29.99. Heard good things about it.

Has anyone played that new NCAA MVP baseball game yet? Since ESPN got the baseball license, MVP decided to go the college route and its pretty good. I don't follow college baseball much though so I don't know much about the teams and who is good or not.

especially after the way this basketball season has gone for the Gamecocks.
as far as the new baseball game, I have heard it was good for EA's first try, it doesnt have all the schools (not even close to all of them) and only has like 13 or 14 school specific stadiums and the hitting controls can be hard to get the hang of, but that it is worth the 30 bucks you pay for it...especially if you are a big fan of college baseball. I dont have it yet but plan on picking it up within the next few weeks.

USC beats "#1 Clemson" yesturday in Columbia 6-2 (shoulda been 6-0, the 2 runs Clemson scored should have been credited to the umpire). Huge crowd at Sarge Frye Field (bigger than the 5800 they said were there). Was wonderful watching the Clemson catcher get kicked out of the game for arguing with the umpire, Tiger coach Jack Leggett should have been tossed too, he spent more time on te field arguing that some of his players spent playing in the field. Rematch today up in Cowtown (Clemson for those of you that have never been there).
