I thought about this thread today as I was driving to work. I have a '99 Cavalier which has 115,000 miles on it. To date, I still have two of the original tires, original spark plugs, original muffler, original .. almost everything, except the body. BUT, that wasn't the car's fault, it was the fault of the viaduct that jumped in front of me that day when there was black ice. My point though, is that I haven't done any major repairs to this car except to replace the rack (of rack and pinion steering) and that was due to awful potholes in this state, not the fault of the car. After going through about 3 feet of water once, I did have to replace the main seal, but it was under warranty still. I also had a problem with the drives side automatic window while it was under warranty. All the warranty work was done well though. I'm really really lucky that my car is so great. I've replaced expected things like filters and brakes, but those things are supposed to replaced (as are tires and spark plugs!).
This is the third GM car I've had that has been this great to me. There is something though that Detroiters know that I don't know if the rest of the country knows... NEVER buy a car made on a Monday or Friday. The date that the car was made is on a sticker on the inside of the door (like when the car door is open, the part you see then, where the latch is). If you're buying a car off the lot, find one built on T, W, or Th. Following this rule may be why I've always had great performance and endurance from my GMs.
