I just pledged a sorority this semester (am currently a 'new member' and we're picking bigs this week!!! super excited) and I'm a junoir. Well, I did a program in high school that allowed me to take college classes, so I've been in college for 5 years now, although I'm only a few months shy of 21, and I have enough credits to be considered a senoir. I had no problem going through it, although I am a legacy so I think they gave me little extra consideration.
Basically, one person told me that going through it later in college is sometimes better because you don't get burnt out. Like girls who join in their first semester are burnt out by senoir year and I can see why becuase it is rather intensive and there are a lot of older girls in my chapter that don't come around as much and that might be why.
The only thing I've found a problem with is that I almost can't connect with most of my pledge class because they're mostly freshman and all they care about is drinking, partying, and guys, while I've been in college for sometime and am over that initial "omg!! no parents and beer everywhere" phase, and I care more about my life and future plans, you know, boring adult stuff.
There's no harm in going through recruitment and checking it out. Depending on your school you might be able to go through some sort of recruitment this spring still. I'm glad I didn't do it earlier in my college career because the me 2 years ago wouldn't have liked it. Unfortunately, there are always some snobby stuck up girls in sororities, and there are some in mine that have the attitude that upperclassmen shouldn't pledge, but I think most girls would welcome you very much and look very positively towards you and look past the fact of how old you are.
