This thread is a bit old and since these things are changing all the time...

Can someone recommend a good site for music, etc?

The legal outlets are obvious - iTunes is an addiction, but some prefer jank like eMusic or Napster. They're generally wrong. If you're looking for less-than-mainstream or hard-to-find albums, Insound is pretty ridiculous - although amazon is generally cheaper, and they have nearly everything except quasi-legal mix tapes (mixunit.com works there).

The probably-not-so-legal outlets . . . well, bearshare still technically works, although there are problems with 'flooding' of sample tracks, partials and etc by some artists. Others may have better programs available, but you're probably just looking for 'something that works' at this point . . .

ETA: also, if you're not on the pandora wagon (www.pandora.com), you should be - you have approximately zero chance of downloading, but the exposure to new/weird things is incredible.

www.shareaza.com is the best program I've seen on PC computers. No spyware either.

i use both limewire (i paid for pro) and shareaza - one at work & one at home

i prefer limewire because it's faster, but shareaza gets the job done, too.
