American Airlines Flight Crashes in Queens, NY
So far that's all the news has reported...
The flight crashed just after takeoff, and all 250 passengers (9 crew members) are believed to have perished. At the moment, reports are conflictings. Some news sources say 12 buildings are on fire in Queens from the crash, while others say that 4 homes were hit and are ablaze.
Right now, no one knows what caused the plane to crash.
Just wanted to keep everyone posted.
Greek love,
Carrie

and NYC is said to virtually be shut down, the tunnel and all that stuff. One report says that from the sky they just saw the engine fall from the plane, but other reports claim there was an explosion. American Airlines doesn't have anything about it yet on their site, but CNN has lots of info

Frustated that our nation is under alert
It is really sad that another plane has crashed but as far as I know, they said it just crashed for unknown reasons. The nation is really devasted and afraid right now and this last crash is not gonna help matters. It seems like we are walking on eggshells and after every attack everything shuts down. You know if this doesn't kill us all, we WILL be stronger. This is the time to pull together. I feel really bad for the victim's family. I couldn't imagine losing someone close to me in a tragedy like that.

I agree Airene_DGP...
People on GC must think I'm crazy b/c of some of my posts, but I'm really not. I too am on edge. This has all been so crazy. I feel especially close to all of these tragedies and the war since my family is from, and lives in NY and my father is a Marine. My uncle and my aunt live in the neighborhood where the plane crashed today. I'm really scared of losing a family member. I'm very close to my family and with all that has been going on it's hard not to worry the way that I do.
...this will make us stronger in the end.

Yes, this was such a sad thing.....it would be horible any time, but considering where we are today it makes it all the worse. The people from the neighborhood where the plane crashed have already lost approx. 90 people (firefighters, police officers, people who worked in the WTC) and now this.
To make matters worse, a close friend of ours lost her dad in the crash. He was flying to the Dominican Republic for his job (he worked in the air industry, he owned a company that provided ground transport/crew type services) and he was definitely on that flight. We were stunned. We had just learned earlier that another friend of ours' mother had died, and then we found out about Michele's dad. So sad....unfortunately I lost my mom and my husband lost his dad at early ages, so we understand to an extent.
