This is a hell of a series. Does anyone want to venture a guess as to why in all movies about Rome everyone speaks with a british accent? Never could figure that out.

It's a joint HBO/BBC production; most of the actors are British, with a few Italians mixed in. It's filmed at Rome's Cinecitta studios.
My guess is that it's possible that the Queen's English - at least for American ears - sounds more like Latin?
