The company does not give unemployment, the state does, and determination is based on why the person was let go. If they were let go through no fault of their own, they are eligible for unemployment, if they were let go for cause, they probably will not get unemployment.

Tickled Pink, your company probably did that because they wanted to reduce liability, not because they had to (if your state is an at will state, and most are)
