At my school, most of us kinda looked down on the kids that would talk back, sit and act bored in class, not particpate, smoke, drink etc... My area was pretty preppy and for us "cool" was being involved in a grocery list of extra curriculars., good grades, and who got into Berkeley/Stanford and the ivy league. Not that people NEVER drank or anything, they did, but they also didn't blow off school.
