You do know that the pledge was written by a socialist and the "Under God" was put into the pledge 50 years ago.

The original pledge went like this:
'I pledge allegiance to my Flag and (to*) the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'

In 1923 and 1924, the pledge changed "my flag" to 'the Flag of the United States of America.' Bellamy, the author, didn't like the change but was ignored due to the lobbying efforts of the American Legion and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In 1954, Congress added 'under God" due to pressure from the Knights of Columbus.

According to Bellamy's granddaughter, Bellamy would have resented the addition of 'under God'. He was forced out of his church because of his socialist sermons and stop attending church all together because of the racial bigotry he found there.
