Lambda Alpha Chapter sister featured on University of Kentucky web site

Please pardon the crash, but I thought y'all might like to see this from the University of Kentucky web site. If link doesn't work, please try UK's main web site and click on the Focus On Students link.

What motivates Yue?

Quote:
Jennifer Yue, a 2005 graduate of the University of Kentucky's College of Communications and Information Studies, says what motivates her is the fact that she is the first in her family to graduate from college.

Yue's parents, immigrants from Hong Kong, came to the United States separately in 1970 and 1971 with little knowledge of the English language. Eventually her parents would meet, marry and open a restaurant in Frankfort, Ky. That restaurant, China Wok, is now in its 25th year.

So just maybe there's a little "work ethic" that motivates Yue, too.

Yue says she feels very fortunate to have been raised in a household that provided her with cultural influences from her heritage and a strong understanding of the value of education and hard work.

Yue, the recipient of the 2005 Otis A. Singletary Outstanding Senior Award also served as one of UK's five student ambassadors. In that capacity, Yue traveled around the state speaking to prospective students, parents and alumni about the university. She also served as president of the Student Development Council, was an officer of Chi Omega Social Sorority, a member of the Communication Honor Society, and a representative in UK's 2004 Homecoming Court.

Determined and prepared, Yue will enter the UK College of Law this fall. There is no doubt she will pursue that goal in the same fashion as she pursued her undergraduate degree: with passion and hard work.

"I plan to practice law someday," Yue said. "And I hope to find a field of law where I can use my language skills in helping others."

Oh, yes, Yue is fluent in the Cantonese dialect of Chinese too.
