I think the social membership may be intended for non-greeks that live in sorority houses when the organization cannot fill it with its own members.

 | If I knew someone had been pledging another sorority on my campus and I was unsure as to whether she initiated, I would definitely go to the other group and ask what happened. I would not want someone as a sister who would be so duplicitous.

 | What I want to know is why akcio sent me a PM about this mess. i ahvent even been involved in this thread....he/she only has what, 2 posts? and somehow somewhere drew my name out of a hat to PM me about this subject? PLEASE.....

My response was as follows:

hi, i have a question that maybe you can answer for me...i rushed last year and was initiated. but i knew i was transferring and planned on trying to re-rush. now i'm about to go through rush again, do you think they can see that i was initiated, or that i was just a pledge?

Is this...a joke? If you joined a national organization, yes, they are gonna know that you're already a member of another group. You might be able to pledge, but they'll have time to run a check through all other national organizations before you get a chance to initiate, and when they find out, it wont be pretty.

If you knew you were transferring, why did you initiate? Unless youre at a school that the organization you're already with has a chapter. If that's the case, all you have to do it affiliate.

Why are you asking me this anyway???? I seriously, think this is a joke. Nobody could honestly be so silly to think its okay to join one and turn around a join another. If your first organization was a local organization, then there is no big deal. But if it was national, you might as well forget it. Go to a campus with that organization and affiliate, or join an alumnae organization. You're already a member of an organization. I can't believe you'd want to join another. Says something about the loyalty you have - or lack-there-of

You can't join another national sorority if you've already been initiated into one.
How do we know? Your name is on a national roster of initiates, and if you've cancelled your membership or been cancelled, then your name is on this list as well.

The question really becomes: why would you want to join an organization through dishonest means and lie to people with whom you are trying to connect with as lifelong friends? Do you think you can keep that kind of secret? And are you the kind of person who can be so unethical that it won't be revealed or come back in another way to hurt you later in life, either in friendship or in your profession?

Here's a basic rule for LIFE: Tell the truth.

ETA: I strongly dislike purposely deceitful people.

You know it's not that hard to find out who she is. Seeing as she already posted her affiliation, girls from schools who think that's where she may be transferring to can call up Chi O nationals with a list of their PNM's and see if any of their names match with the names of initiated members.

 Sorority is LIFE!
 | A word of caution if you decide to do this:
Make sure that the girl who's identity you steal isn't a member of any NPC sorority. Otherwise, you still won't be able to join any NPC sorority and that will just leave you back at square one.
