For some reason my first two years of school I was blessed with some strange roommates.
The one I had sophomore year was really bad though. There were three of us in an apt, a single and a double. I was lucky enough to be in the double. First of all, my roommate, was just weird, I dunno what is was, but she was odd. Secondly, she smelled. Her side of the room didn't, but she did.
When we started school she was dating this guy, he was really nice. Then for some reason in January they broke up. Now my boyfriend lived like in the next building over, so I really didn't spend that much time in my own room. But I was lucky enough to be there they day they broke up. I swear I thought she was going to break our door slamming it so hard. It was one of the worse breakups I've seen, yelling, screaming, etc. I didn't know what was up.
Then she started dating random guys, whatever you flow. Just don't do anything while i'm in the room ya know. We didn't get along, but whatever, I wasn't really living there anyhow being young and in love at the time. But the thing that took the cake, one morning when i came back to shower and go to class she had a random guy in her bed OLD ENOUGH TO BE MY FATHER and HIS 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS ASLEEP ON OUR COUCH!
Needless to say I was so grossed out, I quickly grabbed some clothes, showered and changed in the bathroom and ran out with my books w/o even drying my hair. Thankfully I told a sister about it since housing wouldn't let me move and she was like "come stay here anytime" (none of my roommates were greek).
I used to think i was the cursed roomate though b/c both freshman and sophomore years my roommates broke up with their boyfriends and then decided they wanted to date every guy.

My roommate and I were laughing so hard when we were reading these last night. We realized how perfect we were to have each other as roommates. Now the other two girls we live in...wow. But that is another story for another day. I need to do some googling.
Just wanted to let you know I'm having fun reading and I hope I'll be able to compare.

My roomate freshman year started off really cool. She was an inhouse legacy for a certain sorority and her sister was a senior in the chapter so first semester (we have deferred recruitment) she was a saint, I think she didn't want them to see the real her!! Then she kinda went crazy. She drank alot, acted stupid, didn't have time for me, etc. She inevitably broke my boyfriend and I up with a huge lie after her boyfriend had dumped her, then her and my ex hung out all the time. Like he would come up to our dorm room on Saturdays (only day boys could be in our dorm) to pick her up and say two words to me.
THEN, One time she was deathly sick, I mean puking, couldn't breathe, fluid running out of every opening on her head, disgusting. I brought her medicine, filled a prescription, went to our room only to sleep, got ready in the community bathroom instead of our room, would walk around in the dark with no shoes so as not to wake her, etc. The next week, I got whatever she had and she was better. She came home every day while I was sleeping with food from the cafeteria (she loved cabbage) and would flip on the lights, throw her books down, and turn on the tv, and talk on the phone probably to my exboyfriend, and I rolled over to look at her like WHAT THE HECK IS YOUR PROBLEM and she said, "What?" OH MY GOODNESS. She was the most immature and self centered person on the planet.
OK so THEN.......her mother was flying in from out of state to see her for the weekend and she had a huge test Friday and no time to clean up the room. So I cleaned our room from top to bottom, folded and put away her clothes, MADE HER BED, washed all the dishes, etc. A few hours after all that was done, I ate some Easy Mac because I was starving and I went to the laundry room to iron something to wear the next day. In this span of time her mother arrives and is in our room. My roomate comes and finds me and tells me that she would appreciate it if when I ate something I would clean up my mess because her mother had to wash my bowl. remember, this was less than 10 minutes after I had cleaned or picked up everything she owned. I looked at her and said, "if you don't turn around and walk away right now you might get the worst butt (I used a lot less nice word) kicking you have ever or will ever receive in your entire life. I really don't think I have ever been that angry in my entire life, I mean angry to the point of tears.
We didn't talk much after that. She left her mom, my mom, and myself to finish packing up the room for moveout because she scheduled herself to work that day. FUnny, it was the same place my ex worked, and he got her the job.

Wow, the whole light-switching-on behavior reminds me of the story of this past year's Collins Talker. One of the girls who I met from over there said that her roomie was so obnoxiously loud that most of the floor could hear her whenever she was on the phone. I mean, I would probably be a little quieter on the phone because every door in that dorm has a vent to the outside (which is regularly unscrewed when folks lose their keys--so if you're ever going to be at Collins in Baylor, keep a screwdriver in your purse, LOL). But this girl? No, no shame at all. Her roomie ended up doing most of her studying at the library and the honors dorm (hence me meeting her one day) because she had no concern how her actions would affect her roommate, including the whole TV-while-you're-sleeping bit.

Freshman Year:
I lived in an off-campus dorm. My roomate and I were strangers, and within a week of us getting to college, she had a new boyfriend down the hall. She'd spend all of her time in his room, sleeping, studying, etc... on occasion she'd make an appearance to watch tv in our room or eat or change her clothes. She'd always leave her dirty dishes piled in our sink (we had our own bathroom)-- mind you, this was a sink for brushing teeth, washing up, etc... not a kitchen sink! We also had a swimming pool outside our door, and she'd go swim and then leave her wet suit in the sink.
It got to be really obnoxious because I'd have to push all her dirty scummy dishes out of the way and it didn't really effect her, because, after all she pretty much lived in her BF's room. One day, I got so fed up I threw all her dirty moldy dishes and her wet bathing suit, too, on her bed. I couldn't even see the sink!
She was pissed, but eventually apologized and after that it wasn't an issue. I think she had been so used to her mom doing everything for her that she wasn't used to sharing or cleaning up after herself.
In her defense, she was great about giving me my phone messages!

Sophomore Year:
I was supposed to live in the on-campus apartments with a good friend, but housing screwed up and we ended up in different units. I moved into the on-campus apartments (which USED to be reserved for sophomores and up) and found myself paired with 2 freshmen and a sorority girl. I was rushing that semester.
The freshmen were obnoxious with typical freshmen drama and experimenting with all the types of alcohol they could ingest. I'm a light sleeper and these girls would blast the TV and leave lights on.
The sorority girl had it in for me for some reason. I have no idea what it was. I ended up cutting her chapter during recruitment because I didn't feel it was the best fit for me, ended up joining ADPi, and it's strange because I had a lot of friends in her chapter but after recruitment she just got really rude.
I spent an entire semester dreading going back to my apartment. I would stay awake all night and living with those girls stressed me out to no end. The kicker was when they broke into my room when I was out of town one weekend to "search my room" because they thought that I had something of theirs (one of the girls and I were flying the same airline on different flights for commuter flights home, and she was convinced I'd taken her ticket... whatever!)
I ended up getting mono toward the end of the semester from lack of sleep, stress, etc. I moved into the ADPi house the following semester and enjoyed 2 years of worry-free roommates!

(Due to mono, I had to repeat Sophomore Year)... my 4th year or Junior Year....
I moved into an off-campus apartment where I was living rent-free in exchange for planning resident events. They paired me with a freshman and a junior.
The junior was a little odd, and within a semester, she decided to move into a house with friends. One of my ADPi sisters moved in.
The freshman pledged another sorority and we were pretty close friends. It was like having a "Pahellenic" little sis. Or so I thought. I remember having a conversation with her one time that she'd brought up about where you keep things like money and jewelry. Boy was I naiive! I had been stashing my waitressing money in my dresser and depositing it on a weekly basis (BOA's student checking only gave me a few free teller visits a month, and they it would charge you....) so I'd hold onto my cash.
Well, imagine my surprise not too long after that conversation ... I went to pay ADPi dues and rent.... and my $$$ was all but gone!
The girl was being supported by wealthy parents and had plenty of money-- it was infuriating. I confronted her and she denied it, but two of HER sorority sisters (who were close friends of mine) threatened to call her up to their sorority standards board if she didn't fess up and cough up the cash.
What a mess! I ended up having to take financial inactivity in my sorority because I barely had enough money to eat!
Thankfully, senior year was a wonderful living experience and since I have been out of college I have been blessed with some wonderful roommates!
And now that I'm living in TX, I'm in a one bedroom!
For a while I wondered if I'd done something wrong in a past life--- I mean, I'm a neat person, I don't get in other people's business and for the most part, I'm not a remote control hog or someone who takes over the living room with my personal items.
Goodness, sometimes when I miss college I think about those roommates... and then I am so glad to be out!

Something similar to this happened to one of my chapter sisters. She was a little too trusting of her roommate (who she had been friends with for a couple years) and ended up having countless things stolen. Her roommate even stole a brand new coat of hers from Famous Barr, proceeded to return it to the store, and keep the money! It has gotten so bad that the girl took almost all of her things home with her parents and locks her bedroom door whenever she leaves the apartment. I even remember her being nervous to leave for a whole night to come to one of our retreats, because she feared something else would be missing when she returned! I can't believe people actually do that!
And now my own story...
I had a random roommate first semester who ended up being HORRIBLE. I am a pretty easy-going person and I can deal with a lot of different types of people, but this girl just got under my skin! She would leave her side of the room a complete disaster and then tell me that it "looked bad" when I left a pair of jeans laying on the floor. We were lucky enough to have our own bathroom. We agreed at the beginning of the semester to switch off cleaning it every weekend. Well, after she didn't clean it for about a month, she proceeded to get our RA, bring her into our room and YELL at me because somehow it all became MY fault that she didn't clean the bathroom. (I know, doesn't make any sense!) She slept all day and studied all night. And she couldn't just have her desk lamp on, she insisted on having EVERY light in the room on. And among countless other things, she and her boyfriend had sex in the room everytime he came to visit! I would try to stay with other friends when he came, but there was a couple of times when I couldn't and they would just proceed to have sex with me in the room! There was many more other things, but I can't remember them.
After that semester, I moved in with a sister from my pledge class and had a MUCH better semester!

Why is this the statement that keeps coming up? It's one of the most horrible, but also one of the most popular!

No! But I'm over it... you just have to forgive when people do stupid things to you-- because otherwise you spend your life obsessing over it... and you know they've completely put you out of their minds.
I do believe in karma and that what goes around comes around.... it is the law of the universe.
ETA: What IS it with people doing the deed in front of roommates? I never had this happen, but I know so many people who did and who were completely freaked out by that invasion of their dorm room-- so much so that they never wanted to return!

Well, I have one story...but he wasn't really MY roomie, he was my boyfriend's...
Well anyway, this guy Will was justa creep. He would wank it to porn that he would download onto my guys computer and of course if you walked in at the wrong time you could get an eyeful of something you didn't want to see *ick* Also, whenever I would come over to see Dusty and right when we would be getting, um, romantic, guess who would pop in at EVERY freakin' moment in which he would think he could "see" something? Yeah. Will. Seriously, we would be making out and Will would walk into D's room and start telling us of some damn rash he had gotten the night before. On some days I would go ahead and walk over to their dorm room to wait on D til he got out of class and Tim, his other roomie would try to wait w/me so I wouldn't have to be alone w/Will. Anyway, one time I went over and when I opened the door (it wasn't locked) here Will is shredding weed right in the front room. I mean, c'mon, at least lock thedamn door and make sure who you know is going to be walking in.
Oh, to make this all better he flunked out of school, however, on the last day he was there he got on D's computer and loaded a virus onto it and well, it's been 3 years and he's just NOW got it back to normal.

I've already posted my roommate horror story from my freshman year... but I have a roommate horror story from my husband.
During his first year of grad school, he lived in an apartment building designated for single first-year grad students. Each apartment contained 2-4 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom, and the larger apartments had a common room. All apartments were single-sex.
My husband (then-boyfriend, though we got engaged during the year) was assigned to a 4-bedroom apartment. Two of his three roommates were hardly ever in the apartment and mostly kept to themselves when they were there, so no problems there.
Then there was "Larry".
Larry was returning for a graduate degree after serving in the armed forces, so he was about 30 (everyone else was 22-23). He was always around the apartment because he had no life. He was loud and boisterous.
Larry also had the world's worst B.O. We called him "Smelly Boy" behind his back, and joked about how he needed a visit from the Right Guard Fairy. I learned very quickly that if I stayed overnight and Larry took his morning shower before I had a chance to do so, I was best off going back to my own dorm and showering there... in fact, my husband came with me to my dorm to shower, more than once. (I was still an undergrad, same school.)
Larry sold Amway products for some extra cash. (In his favor, I will say that he never tried to pressure me to buy anything.) He bought a lot of Amway products himself, including their food. I suspect that he had B.O. (and, btw, was grossly overweight) partly because all he ever ate was preprocessed food from Amway.
The following year, my husband and I got into married student housing (even though we weren't married yet) and we haven't had to worry about roommates since.
