From what I hear, it is good duty. They do tend to assume that they're better than many of the civilian professionals they work with and really show an attitude. In some case -- notably smaller markets -- that may be true. However, they have a very pat formula for things that is sometimes fooled by physics and mother nature.

I saved their butts once when George I was speaking at an Air Force Academy graduation in Falcon Stadium. Their formula didn't take into account that the Academy had painted the background a highly reflective blue, and one of their "normal" lights was so "hot" on the background that it was brighter than the President's face on camera. Very bad news.

I actually was told to mind my own business and stewed for a while -- then went back and told them they didn't have to listen, but it was their boss who would look bad, not my pool. The guy sent someone to stand at the podium and looked into the camera and immediately had the offending light removed.

Of course he didn't say thank you.

I did get some nice "autographed" pics of Clinton when they saw the signed photo of "Marine One" I got from the HMX1 folks after the Papal coverage. Had nothing to do with the coverage, but I took the squadron XO to a Bronco game in the station sky box.
Well, the guys in my career field in White House Comm deal more with the computer networking, etc. aspect...not so much the lights.
