I have spent the ENTIRE weekend watching Good Times! I have been taping it too!! I have a VCR in the living room and one in my bedroom. They have been working in shifts all weekend!! One would tape from 6a-12n, then the other from 12n-6p, etc. I went to Sam's Club and bought a 10 pack of tapes for this!!!

My top 10 GT eps:

1. When James Dies
2. They get out of the Ghetto
3. Thelma and Keith get married
4. The eps. when Penny was being abused
5. The dogfood ep.
6. Fishbone's funeral (it's on now)
7. The VD ep.
8. The one where James throws the chair
9. The one where JJ was gonna marry Debbie Allen (the junkie)
10. the talent show ep./the deaf boy almost falling down the elevator shaft

I've been watching too

I've been watching too... It's nice to see black people on tv from the 70s. My boyfriend and I were astonished at the salary that James thought would help move his family out of the ghetto....$4.25!!!

Then again, being that I grew up in another time and place, maybe that was the norm. I know that it's TV and all that, but James was a little too hostile at times.

Michael, on the other hand, ALWASY had an issue. He was always into something: not believing in God, living with the white girl, beating down fat kids on the bus, bringing home homeless men, etc. That boy had an issue every day.

Why is it that when the topic of whippings ever came up, Thelma would always talk about it, but we never really saw James take her in the room? We know that Michael, and especially JJ, got whippings, but Thelma's fast tail never seemed to be in trouble.
She should have got something when she brought home Grandpa Dymomite.....Donald. Him and James were the same age. Actually he looked older than James. Thelma did get away with a lot of mess. But like James said, "she's the only girl, she's special."

I caught the tail end of one today that I have never seen ~ Thelma and the bigomist.

I was thinking the same thing - Thelma's fast butt never got a whooping.

The thing that struck me most about the show was the age difference between Esther Rolle and John Amos - she was 19 years older than him in real life. Amos was a strong actor, but now when I watch the show, I'm too conscious of that powder in his hair.

Come to think of it, they did the same thing with Sherman Hemsley when he first started playing George Jefferson on "All in the Family"!

I must admit it was a nice weekend with the marathon on...I caught it when I was in the house this weekend, and it was really good. I had forgotten all about Fishbone's funeral. I did tape my favorite one that came on last night while I was sleep and that was the ep where they get out of the ghetto.

I don't think I realized how many folks played different characters on that show. For instance, the guy that played Sweet Daddy - wasn't he a nightclub owner as well when JJ was trying to be the singer's manager (and he had borrowed money YET AGAIN from the loansharks)?

Also, when Thelma brought home the old guy, played by Lou Gossett, Jr., he also in another episode played Florida's brother.

But I bet we all know the words to the theme song now, don't we?

I'm that I missed the episode with Fishbone's funeral.
"I love you Fishbone." LOL.

The other ones listed, I made sure I was up for them.

The Buzz Log - Search Spikes and Trends

Good Times Marathon Sparks Searches
Tuesday July 26, 2005 11:00AM PT

Good Times
What you do with your weekend is up to you. You can fish, shop, exercise, or, as many of you apparently did this past weekend, sit slack-jawed on the couch and watch 48 straight hours of Good Times (+94%). Looking over the search data, we were a bit surprised (OK, shocked) at the intense level of interest in the '70s sitcom following its TV Land (+26%) marathon. Were these searches a testament to the show's lasting appeal, or was this a case of too much "dyn-o-mite" breaking down viewer resistance?

The Buzz numbers for "Good Times lyrics" (+73%) and "Good Times TV show" (+115%) were respectable, but searches on the show's cast members (+138%) were better than good. And while Jimmie Walker may have been the breakout star, BernNadette Stanis (+137%), who played the alluring Thelma, attracted more than triple the searches as her costar. John Amos (+17%) and Esther Rolle (+77%), as the oft-exasperated authority figures, commanded some respect in Buzz as did the show's striving son, played by Ralph Carter (+209%). Searches on co-star Janet Jackson actually fell during the course of the marathon. One possible explanation: Viewers didn't recognize the future diva pre-plastic. Good times, indeed.

Question: When did Wilona start calling Michael gramps? And Why?

He has been looking like that for a while now...I remember when I saw the pic a few years back, I thought he was sick.

Where is brother J in that pic?
