I survived college by working full time during breaks and shopping at cheap places. The Dollar Tree, Target, Ross and Marshalls were my shopping venues of choice. I never had a credit card in college either. Why pose the risk. Luckily I had parents to put me through school and help with rent and food. (They were more focused on my grades.)

Now that I am a poor college graduate, shopping at Wal-mart is my new favorite hobby... especially for groceries.

Stay away from name brands if you can. Especially if you are broke. No one is going to think less of you if you don't buy that Coach or Louis purse... or Express jeans... or whatever. Same goes for food. Snack foods generally taste the same whether they are Albertsons brand or General Mills.

And I agree about the savings account. Man, am I glad I set that up.
