I tried my best not to let the emotions get to me, but I cried like never before when I finally became an AKA. Part was happiness and disbelief at the honor of being associated with such a group. Part was sadness because my grandmother (a Golden Soror) could not be there. So, I immediately called her on the phone and as soon as she answered, I started to sing the hymn. She started crying too. I was just overwhelmed with so much emotion. I think I cried for the next several hours. It was an experience I'll never forget.

I feel so silly but I am crying reading this post!!!

Anyway like so many others have shared I too cried as my good friend pinned me at my initiation ceremony. I started to get that welled up feeling in my gut and I took one look at my friend and we both started doing the UGLY cry!!! We were crying so hard she couldn't even get my pin on right, another Soror had to come and help us. I'll never forget when she told me, between sobbing cries, "I love you and I am so happy that you are my friend and now my Soror". Yall I was so moved by the love in that room I still tear up thinking about it.

Immediately after it was offical we sang the hymn and I hugged every Soror in the room. Then we took pictures for what seemed like hours and then went to a public luncheon where we were showered with gifts of the Pink and Green kind. We threw up the pinky so many times my finger was sore!

I called my Soror Aunt, my Soror Cousin, and my fiance (a non greek who was more supportive that I though he would be).

The following week I attended my first sorority meeting at which new officers were installed, and had a get together with my "fellow initiates" were we all attempted our first Skeeee Weeee. It was a mess yall. Some of us were better at it than others... but it was all in the name of AKA love!
