Decide what you are willing to pay then work backwards from there.

Up to $45 a month:
You can have Cable modem. Many analysts expect this price category to fall as DSL service providers continue to drop their prices and improve content. Time warner has 6 month introductory deals ranging from $19.95 to $29.95 and you can do what I do. Keep calling on month 5 of each period and tell them you are cutting it off. They'll extend the offer for another 6 months. I've been doing this with them since May 2003. I'm pretty pleased with Time-Warner. My sister uses them in Houston and is pleased with them as well. This is lightning fast internet. Once you have it, you can never go back.

Up to $30 a month:
Range for most DSL's. SBC offers a $19.95 a month deal thats been a 'limited time offer' thats been around for about 6 months now.

Up to $20 a month
Most dial ups are in this range starting with $6 and moving up. Service at this speed is cheap, but painfully slow.

Good luck.
