Yes, plus the ones you buy in pets stores are not meant to ever live in the wild. They've lost too much of the instinct and won't know how to survive.

Plus, most of the amphibians and reptiles in pet stores are not meant to be in the local climate, most are from the tropics. Your animal could freeze to death, or dehydrate if you're in a drier climate.

Get a stuffed animal, or maybe find a shelter that does a "Doggie day out" where you can "adopt" a pet for a day, and return it near closing. My friends that live on campus/in the house/in student apartments love it. The dog park is so crowded on those days

Careful... depending on where you move after graduation, ferrets are illegal... and REALLY high maintenance pets.

LOL. Great post.

When I was in college, we had a guy friend I knew from high school who we called "Pet Rock" behind his back. He was pretty, but also pretty useless. He was in our bio class and would come by before exams to "study." We'd let him hold flash cards and make copies. Sometimes we'd bring him with us to parties.

I'm sure there's some Pet Rock Boys in your dorm. Find a pretty one and feed him every now and then. He probably (hopefully) won't die at the end of the semester and then he'll go home to his mom and she will feed him.

Wasn't there a Simpsons episode about this? Bart had a pet frog, released it into the wild and it wildly multiplied and then the mayor tried to bring in different animals to make the previous ones go away?

You can learn a lot from the Simpsons...

This post has no purpose, except that I still think that's a great line

HEY! dont knock goldfish..

i bought my first goldfish while i lived in the dorms, he had a one gallon tank and was a lil cutie... well that was 3 years ago and he is still going strong! this year around october will be his 4 year anniversary... he has since moved up in the world to a roomy 5 gallon tank all to himself...he is kinda territorial since he was alone for so long, and doesnt like new fishies, he doesnt give them a chance to eat.

I also agree with everyone else, you are NOT ready for a pet. The orginal question bordered very much on selfishness, no offense but think about the welfare of the animal before you think of your own personal time lines.

had a good laugh from reading this thread though... been MIA in a while.. glad to see greekchat is still as crazy as always

I hope this thread is a joke. Why don't you get an ant farm?

Aaaaagggghhhh! I have an ant phobia, forget it! (I'm so serious, nobody laugh, it was a very traumatizing experience when my cousin left those jellybeans in my closet...)

So, with all of these restrictions, exactly WHY do you want a pet?

I've always had pets my whole life. When I went to college, I started some serious pet withdrawl. I see my pets in the summer, but when I go back, I get lonely in that room all by myself.
