Who's seen this movie? Thumbs up or thumbs down.
I really enjoyed it. I've heard a lot of complaints that there wasn't enough of a human element like the original. I think that was part of Tim Burton's point, that maybe humans aren't the only important creatures in the universe. And then there's the whole race issue... the original was supposed to be an allegory of race relations in the U.S. It's not played up so heavily in this version, but it's still there.
I'd recommend ignoring the critics and seeing it for what it is. A good story, awesome makeup, interesting social commentary. (The acting itself was a little lacking, with the exception of Tim Roth, but not bad).
