boys girls and doing things alone?

How come it seems that boys are more likely to do thing sby themselves than girls?

I am not talking about safety issues either. If a boy wants to go to a restaraunt he usually has no problems going by himself.

If a boy wants to see a movie he usually has no problem going alone.

I know there are girls that are very independant like that(probably some on here), but it seems that most girls won't go out like that by themselves . . is that cultural?

Are girls taught to feel like losers or something if they go someplace by themselves?

James, I feel like you know my sister! You just described her to a T! I remember being 12-years old & my sister cried because I wouldn't go with her to the mall (she was 16!) Little did I know that it was just the beginning!

She hates feeling "alone." She runs up her cell phone bill because she'll call someone while she walks to the bathroom at work (we work for the same company so I know she does it-I see her!) She won't even drive without either having someone in the car or someone on the phone. And she wouldn't even consider eating anywhere by herself!

I don't think the woman is ever truly alone, & she is 27-years old now!

Girls are raised to do stuff in groups. You know how guys always complain that girls go to the bathroom in herds? Well, there you go. But for boys, it's OK to play in the sandbox or whatever by himself. Maybe it's cultural...who knows. I'm a little different because growing up I didn't have any siblings to play with since the older ones had left and the younger ones weren't around yet, so I'm used to doing things alone. But I have to admit that it's usually more fun with other people, especially doing public stuff like going out to eat, to the movies, etc.

I used to never be able to do anything by myself but my sister and my brother were both worse than me. They both had very shy personalities and they are both still like that. As I grew up I became more and more independent/outgoing and now I will do things by myself. Especially since I just moved up here by myself. I think for my siblings and me its just part of our innate personalities that makes them gravitate to people to do things with and I don't so much...

Does that make sense??? I'm so tired right now...

I really don't mind doing some things alone. If I want to see a movie then I'll go see it, even if I don't have someone to go with. I actually prefer going to the mall by myself.

I was the only child at home growing up so I am used to doing things by myself.

Really the only thing I won't do by myself is go eat in a nice restaurant. And thats only b/c people usually look at you funny and also cause I like to talk while I'm waiting on my food.

I turn into a prick if I don't get some time by myself everyday. I went on vacation with my girlfriends family once....I seriously considered going to stay at another hotel just to be left alone for a bit.

Me too. Besides, when you go alone you don't have to coordinate things and be dependent on someone else's schedule. And since my biggest pet peeve is people who are late, it's better for me to go alone.......

Some of it is a security thing too. Girls/Women are frequently told to go places in number for safety purposes. A girl doesn't walk home alone at night, a boy does. Same for shopping late at night, etc. Safety in numbers! Men are not victims as frequently and aren't given that same message their whole lives.

I used to have a job where I was on travel but the rest of my team was local. If I were unable to walk into a restaurant by myself, I would have been very hungry indeed.

Meh. I'm not afraid to go to the mall or go eat by myself.

I think this is the real reasoning behind most women's "pack mentality".

But we go to the Ladies' Room in pairs to compare notes!

Seriously, there is a HUGE difference between being alone and being lonely. I like being alone (at least part of the time!), and am rarely lonely!

I won't go to the movies alone, and I just don't like eating alone, even if I'm home. I have no problem going to the mall alone, and sometimes even prefer it.

I really, really need "alone time". I enjoy being around people, but every once in awhile I just want to go to the mall or a movie or just watch a dvd by myself. This was hard for Mr. KR to understand at first, but he's really good about it now (takes the girls out for dinner or skiing or visiting the inlaws for the weekend).

As far as the "girls traveling in packs to the bathroom" thing, I don't usually mind being part of a pack. But a couple of years ago Mr. KR and I were at a restaurant with one of his former shipmates and his wife and I needed to use the lady's room. I excused myself from the table and she said, "Oh, I'll come with".

Well, it wasn't just a checking my hair, putting on my lipstick kind of visit if you understand what I mean. So I was trying to do my business as quietly as possible while someone I'd only known an hour was trying to converse with me from outside the stall. Ugh.

Awww, man...I hate having to, erm, actually use the restroom when there are other people in there, but especially if they're trying to talk to me! Hello! When someone disappears into a stall, I wait til they come out to continue the conversation because to me that's just common courtesy.

I also hate it when you're in a bar and some drunk gal is screeching over the stall door, "Who's in there? Is anybody in there? When will you be done?"
