Mississippi: Sigma Nu hosts Charity Bowl for paralysis foundation

Sigma Nu hosts Charity Bowl for paralysis foundation
by Heather Burchfield
DM Staff Reporter
April 01, 2005

Sigma Nu fraternity will be hosting their annual Charity Bowl tonight with a cheerleader competition starting at 5 p.m. and a football game against Sigma Chi fraternity beginning at 6 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

This year the money raised will be contributed to the College Charity Bowl Foundation, which has a partnership with the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation.

The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation is committed to funding research that develops treatments and cures for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders.

“The game is played with full pads just like a regular football game,” Champion said. “We will also have real NFL referees to call the game.”

Each National Panhellenic Council sorority will be competing in the cheerleader competition, and each NPC sorority has also picked a maid to represent them.

Cannada said that so far they have made about $70,000. In 2003, the Sigma Nu’s raised roughly $125,000, which was the largest sorority and fraternity money-making philanthropy event in the nation.
