Mississippi: Sigma Nu hosts Charity Bowl for paralysis foundation
Sigma Nu hosts Charity Bowl for paralysis foundation
by Heather Burchfield DM Staff Reporter April 01, 2005 Sigma Nu fraternity will be hosting their annual Charity Bowl tonight with a cheerleader competition starting at 5 p.m. and a football game against Sigma Chi fraternity beginning at 6 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. This year the money raised will be contributed to the College Charity Bowl Foundation, which has a partnership with the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation is committed to funding research that develops treatments and cures for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders. “The game is played with full pads just like a regular football game,” Champion said. “We will also have real NFL referees to call the game.” Each National Panhellenic Council sorority will be competing in the cheerleader competition, and each NPC sorority has also picked a maid to represent them. Cannada said that so far they have made about $70,000. In 2003, the Sigma Nu’s raised roughly $125,000, which was the largest sorority and fraternity money-making philanthropy event in the nation. |
It is going to be great tonight! I am an alumnae of AOII, but I love going to watch the cheer competition between the sororities and then the game. This year game is against the Eta Chapter of Sigma Chi here at Ole Miss.
Hopefully, it won't rain here tonight! |

Sigma Chi beat Sigma Nu 20-7. The cheerleading competition among the National Panhellenic Council sororities was a success as well, organizers said. Pi Beta Phi won the dance category, and Chi-Omega won the cheer category. Kathy Brewer of Delta Delta Delta was named Charity Bowl queen. |

It was a great game. The Snakes worked very hard to raise that money.
