School shooting in Minnesota

A student shot his grandfather and grandmother before he went to the school.

Drove up to the school and shot at least 14 people.

It was reported that 8 are dead possibly including the shooter.

ETA: these details are from CBS and keep changing....

One of the quotes from the story that gets to me the most:
"He came into the school and the first person he shot was the security officer at the door," said Molly Miron, editor of the Bemidji Pioneer newspaper. "One of the students told me he pointed his gun at a boy and then changed his mind, smiled, waved at him, and shot somebody else."

Can you imagine someone pointing a gun at you, then putting the gun down, smiling and waving, and going around shooting others?

My heart goes out to all of those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Wow. I cannot even imagine something like that.

I think a lot of people want to know "why".. ya know? Why he shot his grandparents, and what made him decide to shoot at school.

Just because of where I live and what I was doing for a living in 1999, when I saw the thread here, the first thing that popped into my mind was "Columbine."

While it's too early to say anything definitive, it appears that there are some similarities between this shooter and the two Columbine killers, and they always sound familiar:

..A loner.
..Teased by classmates.
..Often dressed in black.
..Killed himself in the end.

Unfortunately, we seldom get to question these people to really get an answer to WHY?

It also goes to show that security systems often do little more than put those security officers at risk.

Bad times for the victims and families, bad memories for others.

The more I see of this story, the more it sounds like Columbine.

..Threats on a webpage.
..Admired Hitler

Saw on the news today that the principal of Columbine has offered to go to Minnesota to pay his respects and help in any way he can.
