Just wanted everyone to know that Eating Disorder Awareness Week is the 27th of this month to March 5th in case you wanted to sponser something that week.
i am risk management for my sorority so I would like to organize something for it...what do any of you suggest?

Hi,
I'm going to move this to Greek Life because I think it will receive more attention there.
Good luck.

If you have a chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon on your campus, you should contact them since ANAD is one of our philanthropies. If not, check out the ANAD website by clicking here.

A couple of years ago, the AST chapter sponsored an eating disorder/body image seminar for girls. You could maybe do something like that.

We did a great workshop a few years back, though it was less eating disorder and more body image, but pretty related. We looked at myths and truths of bodies. Like the % of women who look like a model, things like that. Then we did the longer term stuff. Everyone got a slip of paper that said something posititve about respecting your self, loving who you are etc. Then we each had little bags that we decorated to reflect ourselves. (The kind you get from the commons) and everyone wrote something nice and put it in that person's bag. Then everyone got to take their bags home and had a month (we had 30ish women) worth of copliments. I got a lot of great feed back because it carried the idea past the two hour event and helped when you had a crappy day or just needed a good thought before class.

That's a really great idea. I think that would be a positive way to talk about this problem.

Along with what Peaches said, many of the Delta Phi Epsilon chapters help their campuses host events during Eating Disorders week, as it is one of our national philanthropies. You can also, if you have a chapter on campus, find out if they will be hosting one of our annual ANAD Candlelight Vigils during our Founders Day week (March 17th). It's a GREAT and moving way to learn about the fight to combat eating disorders.

eating disorders
Just a word of warning-
I am sure that anyone who speaks about eating disorders knows to watch what they say.
Coming from someone who struggles w/ an eating disorder, you would be amazed by the things that can set someone w/ one off.
