What's the point of cell phones?
Ok...the title is a bit misleading, but I thought this was really interesting and funny, in a way. I'm sure some of you have seen the online ads for this company but have you checked them out yet?

Now you can transfer your cell phone calls directly to your home so you can save minutes!
This reminds me of the stories of children who are fed up with crackly cordless phones and have the *brilliant* idea that someone should make a phone with a *cord* tied directly into it so it's easier to hear. What a novel concept!! LOL!

HAHA! I don't know why people even bother having land lines any more. I haven't had one since September and don't miss it a bit -- you just have to get enough minutes!

I need my landline. Cell phone coverage is poor to nonexistent where I live, and I work from home a lot, so I need a reliable phone to participate in teleconferences and to use with my fax machine.
This product kind of makes sense if you're home a lot... you give out one number (your cell), and if you happen to be home when someone calls, you switch the call to your landline and save your minutes.

We have a landline and cell phones. He doesn't use his cell phone much cause he's at home a lot but has it in case he goes out and for emegencies. And I'm always out shopping, so it's useful. Plus we don't reception at our place, so we need a landline.

Oh y'all are no fun! I too had a cell and a landline when I lived in Georgia. It's not practical here in the dorm though. (The dorms don't come with phones in the rooms). But, come on people! There's something ironic about the service...ya gotta admit it!

I had a cell my first year here...and now I have a landline. Local calls are free on the landline, so I make business calls during the day on the landline to save minutes.

I have no reception at home, so I always forward my calls to my parents' landline when I come home.

I appreciate the irony. It reminds of the King of Norway.

I definitely need the landline - my area is a dead zone for cell phones, especially my apartment. I get a little more reception on the second floor, but barely.
The product does make some sense - if I was working from home I'd consider using it because of my reception trouble.

I don't think this service devalues your cellphone. You can only use it when you are at home. You still need your cell phone when you are out which is most of the time.

Has anyone tried voip? I just signed up for voip about two months ago and I like it a lot. I use Sunrocket b/c they had the best price with the best features. This company you are talking about sounds like it has some simliar features - like being able to forward calls or pick up a call as the person is leaving a message. I don't miss my landline at all!

I agree... I haven't had a land line since... hmm... well it's been almost 1.5 years now.
There is also an internet phone thing that my bf's company uses to save their cell phone minutes. I can't remember the name of it, but it's free. All you have to do is download the client. The people you want to call have to have that program running on the computer, so I guess that could be a down-side, but since they use it for work purposes (programming consultant) it save all of them lots of cell phone minutes. It can also be used for non-commercial calls and it doesn't matter if it's "long distance".... all you (and the people you want to call) need is the program. It's also pretty good sound quality too.. so yay.

Texas Princess - Is what your boyfriend has called Skype? I looked into that but voip was a better option for me because the person I am calling can have a regular land line even if I don't.
Btw, do you ever have difficulty getting credit cards b/c you don't have a landline? A friend of mine was rejected b/c she only had a cell phone and not a "home" phone.
