My laptop was stolen

I came home to my apt to find my lap top stolen, but nothing else. My roommate has all of her stuff. I had also come home to a note on my door that my roommate was told to kill herself so she was leaving. I found my roommate luckily. I had been hoping she had my lap top and she didn't.
I am mad at myself bc i left my door unlocked, bc I live on campus in the apt. And no one ever walks by my door--we are the dull side of the apt compared to the other building we are connected to. Since I was just a few doors down and able to see my room from my friend's i feel safe keeping the door unlocked.

OMG . . . it's always horrible when something like that happens. Did you at least have insurance on it? I know all my relatively exspensive stuff (computer, flute, jewlery) is listed on my parents homeowner's insurance and with their policy since I'm in college and it's at school with me it's covered. However we should all (especially females) lock ALL of our doors ALL the time . . . I'm slightly anal retentive about this. I even lock my apt door when I'm home so no one walks in on me. I hope everything turns out okay!

Did you write down the serial number incase it turns up at a pawn shop or the police find it?

OMG Lana! You are in the Big Scary City now. Keep your door locked all the time - it's not a bad habit to get into. Report it to the police and let them know about the note too.

How terribly weird! I'd definately follow everyone's words of advice. Report it right away and start LOCKING your doors. Make your roommate do the same thing! People aren't as innocent as you believe...so don't trust them based on the fact that you're area of the building is quiet.
Furthermore, keep the note. They may be able to get fingerprints off of it.
I HIGHLY suggest what ZNTKE said...find the serial number (on your box or warranty) and be prepared to give that to the police. It will help in finding it at pawn shops.

So sorry this happened to you! I'd feel totally violated to have something stolen!

Wait... the note wasn't from the intruder, was it? To me, it sounded like the note was from the roommate, saying she was leaving.

My roommate didn't take it--she didn't even know what had happened.
I still don't knowwhat happened to the computer. My mom is so pissed off. She is more pissed off than me. I did find the serial number. Because of this situation I am going to look at everyone in a new light. Trust is gone!

First of all...you left your door unlocked.

Second of all...what is the deal with the note? Did someone else leave it? Did your roomate leave it? Is it even relevant to the story?

Thrid of all...so you don't trust anybody now? No, just don't trust the people that walk into unlocked houses.
