Rush and work
I am planning on doing fall rush, but I am going to need to work during it also to pay bills for my apartment. How many of you guys did fall rush and worked at the same time, and how did you manage your time. i am planning on working at least 20 hours a week, and take 16 hours of school, and manage time for my friends and boyfriend. What should I do, I may be able to to just work 12 hours a week, and that be it, but I have to work. I really need help with this subject.

When I went through Rush (we called it Rush back then), I knew that it was going to take up some of the hours I set aside for work. However, because I was so serious about making this Rush a succesful one, I asked my boss to cut down my hours so I could attend Rush events. If that wasn't possible, then I'd double up on the weekends since most Rush events are held during the week. I was lucky that my boss was understanding about my situation!
It was a small sacrifice to make, and it was difficult as I often found myself too tired for school, friends, and the BF...but I knew that I had to do it. I knew back then that, if the sisters could take the time out of their schedules to put effort into their Rush events, then I should do the same and attend them.
Good luck..and please be sure to keep us posted!

When I went through rush, I worked, and even worked during my new member period. Mind you, I had a "day" job as a part time secretary, but on top of 18 credits, a part time job and pledging, I was a little tired. It's all worth it in the end. Again, if you want it, you gotta go for it!

Aprilrain, this year at my school, the potential new members receieve a schedule of all the party dates when they sign up for recruitment. This way, they can either plan ahead with work or put in excuses. As long as the absenses are excused, you won't be dropped from the first invitational and usually won't get dropped from the second if the members have met you at least once. I wouldn't miss paties the day before Preference, however, or you may be disappointed.

If I were you I would figure out a way to be there ALL nights. It will be to your benefit for two reasons.
1. You need to get a feel for the different organizations to see which one you really fit with. You really can't do this if you are only there for a few nights.
2. The first night you will meet the most sisters. The number of sisters you meet each night will decrease as the week goes on. My point is the more you meet the more you will have pulling for you when it comes down to the vote. You need to be there to make an impression on them so they won't be fuzzy about who you are and what you have to offer. I don't know how it works in every sorority but in mine, I am only allowed to choose my top choice of girls up to quota. Then my votes are meshed with my sisters votes to create an A and B list. If it comes down to choosing a girl for the A vs. B list I will always go with the one that was there every night.
If you need more help understanding this process let me know and I will tell you. It is very important to know the process from our perspective so you will be more comfortable.

Throughout my four years, I have worked two jobs, taken atleast 18 units, volunteered in the community, held titles in Pageants, and held a boyfriend...BUT, when I rushed, I dropped it all for rush, because I knew that I could figure something out with my schedule once I got in. Missing events GREATLY jeopardizes your standings in a house, not matter what people say...the more girls get to know you in a good way, the better your chances. When I joined the house, I cut back a lot in my outside events, and focused on the house, but that was my choice. Instead of working so much, I decided to take a larger loan. I pay for EVERYTHING and I bought a brand new car, so cuttin back on work was difficult, but I did it to be more active in my house, and I know, looking back, I totally made the right decision.
