Levon Helm’s Cancer Battle in ‘Final Stages’
Quote:
Dear Friends,
Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer. Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey.
Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration... he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage...
We appreciate all the love and support and concern.
From his daughter Amy, and wife Sandy

Great musician, highly influential, and made an indelible mark on the culture, even if his name isn't widely known.

One of my grandfathers was a coal miner in eastern Kentucky who died relatively young (aged 42), so my sisters and I always sort of imagined him as Levon Helm as Ted Webb.
He was also really touching in a small part in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

My husband and I saw him perform at The Ryman Theater in Nashville about three years ago. To date, the best shows I've ever seen at the Mother Church, and probably one of the best concerts I've ever seen, period.

I love the movie The Right Stuff, and he was great as the narrator, and the guy who was always giving Chuck Yeager a stick of gum before he went off to set some flight record.
