I think it's really rare for a chapter at an SEC school to fold these days, but that doesn't mean the rumors aren't always out there.
I'm glad it worked out for her!
ETA: me too about AuburnMom. She's probably hesitant to jump in with her good news, but we eagerly await it!

Something to chuckle about on a Sunday
... okay, to tell you how excited I have been to hear your results. I'm sitting in the Red Carpet Club in Chicago waiting for my next flight..... the first thing I did was get onto my computer to hear what the result were for everyone. At times the news is not good- for that I am sorry to hear. OK Elaine and AuburnMOM- hoping to hear something soon ( but no pressure)..... I am going to a very small town in upper PA-- no internet-- ahhhh!
Panhellenically yours- a traveling left coaster!

There is no need for the nastiness. The mom is very upset, her D is probably very upset. Recruitment is stressful under the best of circumstances let alone at one of these big Southern schools. perhaps the mom's comments can be read as being a bit harsh, but she was writing in the heat of the moment. Let the mom vent on an anoymous message board but give her a break for acouple of hours so she can process the disappointment before you criticize her parenting skills. I'm sure by tomorrow she'll feel slightly better.

My Good News!
Well, if you want to hear good news I'll give it. My daughter was invited to 3 pref parties and all are her top choices! She is excited and nervous and all full of emotion. She isn't sure how she will pick one above the others because she loves all three....I have told her that I will take her out to lunch before bids on Monday but after that i will leave her so she can meet and bond with her new sisters. I am very grateful that Auburn welcomes parents to bid day, I would have liked that very much when I received my own bid. I do have one question for everyone....If my daughter does not receive a bid will she be notified ahead of time? It would be very sad to find out in front of everyone that you did not receive a bid. I am driving to Auburn with a group of moms and I guess we would like to know before we hit the road!

I'm pretty sure they let the girls know in advance with a phone call if they are released.
(In your situation, as long as she likes all the groups that she prefs, you don't have much to worry about. I think she'll be matched as a quota addition to one of her groups as long as she lists all three on the bid card. This would be true for any girl who maximizes her options through prefs. At this point, things look really good! )

IF she's not at the top of the bidlist - which could happen.
Although, honestly, if you were #1 on the bidlist or the very last QA, it doesn't make that much difference in the longrun.

I can totally understand where these mom's feelings are coming from and I'm not even a mom. You just want what's best for your child, and if your child really, really wants to be in a sorority and they have a horrible recruitment it's going to hurt your heart.
That being said, OMG when I have kids and if I get a girl, I can't imagine her going to an SEC competitive recruitment. As a mom (and greek) I might just lose my damn mind. LOL.
Forget it, she'll be going to a state school. I know that U of A, ASU and NAU recruitment isn't as competitive as an SEC school. .
AuburnMom- I hope Kate is having a wonderful time!!! Update when you can (no rush though).

WOW, does this ever sum it up!
I remember having trouble trying to convince my 45 sisters - all of whom I knew - that a rushee I'd talked to was a great girl and it just didn't fly. I can't IMAGINE trying to convince 200+ people, to many of whom I'm just a name on a roster.
I know that women in huge chapters do have great experiences and make lifelong connections, but God, sometimes I just cannot wrap my head around it.

Oh yeah. She could certainly be number one.
I was just trying to articulate that for a girl who would be happy in any of the groups that she's preffed and has maximized her options throughout, there's nothing to worry about. Basically if you list them all, you are going to match to one.
The only girls who have to worry about getting the released from rush phone call before bid day at Auburn are the girls who don't maximize their options.
So if you are still in the game and you maximize, you're going to win.

This quote stands out in my mind.
At the end of the day, we do have to remember that no matter how stellar your daughter/sister/whomever is, going through recruitment does not guarantee a bid.
