Agree. If the Federal Government would actually enforce its own laws then perhaps Arizona wouldn't have felt such pressure.

Mexico is a big hot mess of hypocrisy, I nearly threw up when Calderone talked about the AZ bill as an attack against human rights. The man has no room to talk about OTHER Governments repressing their peoples' rights.

This is really nice. Make it a criminal offense to work in the AZ if you are an illegal alien, but they're just going to let all the employers, who want to cheat the system by paying for cheap labor with no benefits, keep hanging that carrot that lures the indigent Mexicans over the border looking for a better life. Of course, they have an addition to the law that makes it illegal to pick up illegal aliens IF you block traffic!

because these issues hasn't been addressed in previous laws and being in a country without papers is just now becoming illegal.

I call BS on that, considering all the people for this bill keep parroting that this law is almost word for word the same as the federal law that just needs to be enforced....soooooo, my question remains, why not go after the employers who drive the mass influx of poor Mexicans who know they can find a job?

while employers aren't gone after in great number, it's still a penalty. both are illegal. both are breaking the law. and have been breaking the law for some time. it's not new.

This is true (and why the term "undocumented immigrant" is used by the courts - technically, there's no criminal act involved in entering the country without proper credentials in the sense most people would think of it), but I'm not sure exactly where you're going with it - making it 'illegal' in a criminal sense will be a total f-ing disaster from a time/money standpoint.

Right now, part of why the Federal system is broken because it relies on employers as enforcement, for a large part. This does not work, because employers a.) aren't good at this and b.) have absolutely no incentive to enforce the law.

So why would we expect further codification to make it work all of the sudden? And if it does work, aren't the results (in terms of money spent and reassignment of law enforcement efforts) at best a wash and at worst a disaster?

so you're telling me it's not a crime to violate the immigration and naturalization act? what's the definition of crime?

I think people are blowing this up. If you are in ANY state and are asked to show ID and you don't have it you get in trouble. So why is it this such a big deal? If you have ID your fine if you don't well then theres an issue as there should be. I am sorry I have many friend who came here legally and feel it is wrong that illegals get away with stuff like this. People always play the "race card" when it works in their favor. I think we have a big problem with things like that and why is it never ok for a "white" person to play the "race card" sorry to tell everyone but "white" people are getting out number and stats show by 2012 they will be. So just carry your ID!
