Man, Mr. Spader is a fine one, indeed (I even like his character in 'Pretty in Pink')...'Secretary' is a good one too!:"You're fired!" "No, YOU'RE fired!" THAT'S wassup.

The Green Patures - 1936 - a spiiritual story of Negro's (remember it's 1936) interpretention of Bible stories and characters.

Nothing But a Man - set in the 60's - love story about a man and woman whose bond overcomes racial and class barriers

To Sir with Love - set in the 60's - young Black teacher (Sidney Poitier) take on a class of roudy, undisciplined punks in England (I think)

I'll have to check out Hearts and Minds. I saw the other docs you mentioned, and I agree about Michael Moore (I agree with his politics for the most part, but he can be heavy-handed and over-the-top at times; I think he'd be taken more seriously if he'd just stop beating a dead horse. We get it, Mikey, *GOSH* {hijack from ND}! )

Oddly enough, I enjoy war flicks as well. Black Hawk Down and Tears of the Sun struck a chord in me.
*When I can afford it, I too, Soror, will be checking out 'wine country'!

*This is a precaution: 'Hearts and Minds' is not for the light at heart...seriously. I watched it with a group of uber-mensch who were all for it---the blood and gore and so forth. I was even a little emotional towards the end. ME!

*I'ma have to check into some of these other movies posted. My mind needs to be s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d because I have serious senioritis and watching 'Boomerang' and 'Silence of the Lambs' because I don't want to go to the library and being lazy is definitely not what's hot on the streets, lol. I'm getting dumber by every minute I watch Eartha Kitt say 'Maaaahhhhhh---kuuuuuussssss"!

Oh Okay. I looooooove Requieum, but just seeing the MD title makes me cringe. That box! Grrrr.

Has anyone ever seen Kissing Jessica Stein?

I dont know if the Butterfly Effect was obscure or not. I luv that movie. If it wasnt obscure I know the director's cut should be. The director's cut has a completely different ending and the movie is still good.

Not obscure, but...

Okay, I've officially become addicted to this thread.

Before I mention a whole cornucopia of (relatively) obscure movies I've seen, I've got to give "big ups" to my ultimate fav not-so-obscure indie flick GARDEN STATE!!! It plays on the various HBO channels all the time and I watch with excitement every time as if I'm seeing it for the first time. I have friends from NJ (have only been once myself), but you don't have to be from there to appreciate the humor (it *really* should've been nominated for an Original Screenplay Oscar ). I also love the songs in it (gotta get that soundtrack!).

Anyone else a huge GS fan?!

Favorite "WTF" Actors and Actresses

Okay, who are your favorite obscure (or not-so obscure) movie actors and actresses? They can be indie or mainstream; they're just mainly notable for the types of roles they play.

My actors: Gary Oldham, John Malkovich, Ralph Fiennes, and (my baby!) Kevin Spacey

My actresses: Hmmm....can't think of many....the only one that comes to mind right now is Franka Potente...will think of more later

Obscure movie that keeps coming on HBO- "With Honors." I love this movie and the theme song sang by Madonna. Yeah, I like Madonna...the old Madonna.

Co-sign (on both accounts)! I always laugh at Patrick Dempsey's hair! He's still got it as Dr. McDreamy...love Brendan Fraser, too!
