Every single one I have met is loud, annoying, stuck up, judge by appearence, popularity contest, etc.

I have my opinion and you all have yours. Last year I was also invited to dinner with an old friend (who also changed very much). I could not believe how fake they were, and also the petty things they fought over.

I guess I just feel more independent (sp?) taking care of myself and forming friendships with people that I like.

I understand your opinions are different from mine, and that's just fine.

And as a side note, I volunteer at a soup kitchen and I can do charity and not be in a sorority. I also have my own connections with people all over the WORLD by talking/meeting people and traveling.

If those are reasons why being in a sorority is important, then it is not for me.
Good luck in college and with your future endeavors - Greek life isn't for everyone, and everyone has their own reasons why and why not they're doing it.

The one thing I would say is to be open to the fact that some Greeks are friendly, kind, not the type of people you're met.

Good luck with everything.

I did not pay for my friends. They paid for their own Tshirts, and Leadership Workshops, and food, and ........

I had to laugh after reading the seven pages of this post. 'Tis another test of Greekdom to have to constantly defend ourselves. LOL. But, as with all humans (and particularly us ethnocentric americans) the urge to rebel against any organization is apparent and obvious.

Anywho, I would just like to state that I hate independents. I only joined my fraternity to haze other young men. I am one of the hottest guys at my school. Sorority girls are just sluts that joined their GLO so that they could sleep with me and my brothers. I cannot think on my own, in fact, I have to have the exec. board tell me what to think. I pay with my Visa for awesome friends, check for okay friends and cash for shitty friends (that way no one can prove that I bought the shitty ones)...

^^^^Sarcasm btw...

I am the Recruitment chair for my chapter at Kent State and personally, we try to recruit people with Green's mentality...to an extent. Not necessarily people that are judgemental and sheepish, but the ones that do not like the Greek system. If you can sway someone that absolutely, positively HATES Greeks ;-) then you'd be amazed what they will say if they go active. They will be shocked and believe they are the only person that truly understands the joys of Greekdom. Trust me, I was one of them. ;-)

Oh...and we don't pay for "friends" we pay for brothers or sisters. If you're going to insult and stereotype us...at least get it right...

Seeya.

DUDE! that's so crazy! me too!!! did u empty ur bookbag of all its books and replace it with beer too? Man that's awesome cuz i did! And I have an always cold keg in the back of my car! I thought I was the only mindless drunk around here who gave away money so I can have buddies!

hahaha! FREAKY!

K ANYWAY......

Yea I feel you on the recruitment issue...if you read my earlier post I was once a curious (not completely negative, but pretty against Greeks) ignoramus. Hell it took 2 years to rush me but it happened! My friend, now one I call brother, tried to rush me Fall quarter of our freshman year, and finally after a year and a half of failed attempts to rush me...when he no longer brought it up to me, it was I who was curious and realized it was for me after all! Too bad I didn't come around earlier...but I'm glad I finally did...best decision I ever made.

yea, true story...haha
