Could not have said it any better myself! You seem like a fantastic young lady, and it's their loss. The AU Family is more than Greek Life, the people at AU are some of the friendliest people in the world! I was in awe of how many clubs and activities that the University offers, and although I pledged, I'm still looking to take part in some, great way to meet people! Make the most of it, and good luck!

The thing is, Wareagle, you probably have a general idea of how RFM works, but it's not perfect. Chapters could have cut too many girls and end up short of quota, even though they are a strong chapter. The numbers of girls to keep versus cut is an art not a science. I'm not saying put all your emotional eggs in the "second chance at sorority" basket, but you should still consider it.

Daughter has 3 skit parties today. 2 standout favorites and one that she justcan'tseem to connect with. Not sure what the day will hold but she's still in it 100%.
As a side note she had 13 recs and she only made it back to 3 for philanthropy. So recs do not guarantee you past the first cut. (and most of those had 2 recs submitted)

That's great that your daughter got invited back. Perhaps she'll get to know the lone Sorority that she can't seem to connect with better. Definitely hoping her day goes well with all 3, especially the 2 favorites. Hoping for some good news next time you post (tonight or tomorrow)!

Recs are never a "guarantee" of anything. At a competitive school like Auburn, almost every pnm has them so all they do is put you on the same footing as those other pnms in that respect. With many chapters you will get cut without a rec, so when you have one you are able to at least eliminate the possibility of being cut simply because you don't have one.

Not only that, but not all recs are glowing recommendations. Just saying.

My daughter was blessed with a full schedule of parties. She is very excited. She has five of her favs left and three of her top four. Two she still hasn't felt any connection with at all. She is looking forward to a great day.
I agree with what's been said about AU. It's a great place for so much social life and activities. Everyone will find their perfect place!

Update here - my daughter also got invited back to 3 skit parties - one of those has been her favorite (so far) but she is open to the other two as well.... Should be a fun day for her (but a pins and needles day for me)....
Thanks for posting that about the recs GAmomof2.... I've been so distraught over this - We were counting on one family friend (a teacher) who promised to get many different recs for my daughter. AFTER rush began - I e-mailed her and discovered she did not follow through with any (except for her own sorority).... So your post has made me feel better. What will be will be...

So sorry that happened to your daughter.
But for the sake of all PNMs at competitive schools, both now and into the future, I want to reiterate what I said above:
A positive recommendation WILL NOT prevent a PNM from being cut in any given round. It WILL only prevent her from being cut for the reason of NOT having one at all.

Wareagle - I know from talking with daughter that this has been an emotionally draining experience and I'm sorry things didn't turn out the way you had hoped. BUT - Auburn has so many great ways to get involved. Tiger Tuesdays is a great group to be involved in. Like others have said, after you think about it, maybe COB would be something to consider as well.
Good luck in whatever you decide - Auburn is fortunate to have YOU!

Auburn HAS had some COR opportunities in past years. So I'd encourage PNMs to inquire about them after FR is over.
I will say though, that NOT every chapter participates and those who do may have limited spots available. If one were to show interest in COR, they'd need to be open to considering the chapters participating.

A good friend of mine always does recs for girls that I know for her sorority, and she has been frustrated in the past few years because her rec girls seem to never make it past first round at the school she attended. She fired off an e-mail to the chapter today because out of 6 recs she wrote for very smart, cute girls, none made it back to 2nd round. The chapter advisor responded that at this particular campus where numbers going through recruitment are huge, her best bet is to bring the girls by the previous spring and introduce them to some members if she wants them to have a chance of being invited back. Think that goes along with the other comments about recs not meaning what they used to.

^^^The thing with recs is that EVERYONE has them. When everyone has it, it becomes a standard thing, not something that makes you stand out.
Let's say a sorority has a policy stating that everyone with a rec comes back to 2nd round. (Disclaimer: I don't KNOW any sorority policies except my own.)
If you go to a small school where like 4 girls have recs, that policy is a huge deal. It's no problem to give 4 women those courtesies.
However, at a BIG school where all 1200 women have recs and someone has to be cut, everyone can't be afforded that courtesy.
