Believe me, we had some girls who HATED red and never wore it, but for rush and bid day they put on their black or white sweatshirts with red letters and dealt with it. As long as you don't put a yucky for you color next to your face it isn't too bad. I'm pretty sure our bid day shirts for new girls were always on a white ground.

I believe CC's complaint wasn't that ONE other group was wearing pink, it was that every sorority and their mother and their golden retriever was doing so. This is why I kinda hated when all the sororities went to white jackets - yeah, maybe it was a little more subtle than RED SATIN or GREEN SATIN but everyone looked like everyone else.

Apparently my opinion is controversial...

I don't have a problem with chapters using colors other than their official ones (although I can't identify... my chapter loves pink and uses pink for almost every shirt). Like, someone mentioned a yellow and pink shirt, which sounds so pretty. It's the use of another chapter on your campus's colors for a recruitment-related function that bothers me, with no apparent reason for doing so other than you like the color. When I give a new member their FIRST sorority item (Bid Day Tshirt), you can be damn sure it's going to be somewhat PINK, because when I see them on campus, I want everyone to know that they are a new Phi Mu. I just can't identify with any other opinion.

But yeah... I guess I need a disclaimer that says that this is MY opinion and not the opinion of my chapter?

I understand where you're coming from, but sometimes a chapter using their own colors can still cause some overlap. For example, we have Phi Mu on my campus, too. Last year, our Bid Day t-shirts were pink, which is one of our colors as well. I honestly don't remember what color Phi Mu's Bid Day shirts were, but I just wanted to point out that a lot of chapters have at least one color in common, which makes it a little more difficult.

Right. We do not have Delta Zeta or Delta Gamma on my campus. We use a lot of pink and green though and we have an AKA chapter... and if they participated in our Recruitment, I would certainly change that strategy. For now though, they love our display board

FWIW, I agree. While I love azure blue, it is NOT my best color - but you better believe it that I wore it during Recruitment! To me, not wearing your own colors during Recruitment is somewhat traitor-ish (is that a word?) - and also, confusing to the PNMS. Many times, we had the same shirt made in azure blue with white letters, and white with azure blue letters, which wasn't quite as bad.

Strangely, the DZs never wore pink on my campus - which is good, since I really, really didn't like their president at the time I rushed! - and we had no Phi Mu, or I might have ended up in a Pink sorority. Pink is definitely one of my best (and favorite) colors!

When you've got two different sets of colors, the combos are endless . We're the only org on campus (that might be different after this year, there's been word of Phi Beta Sigma establishing a chapter) that uses the blue/white combination. If we want to be stuffy, it's saphire blue and rose white. Since we don't do "bid day" shirts persay, we usually just wear letters on bid day. Even our alternate colors- black and red- also used by Delta Sigma Theta- are pretty uncommon. since all the chapters here were founded in similar time frames, i think the founders made darn well sure to make their colors very distinct from every other org on campus.

But the tees were hot pink - not rose & white. ADPi wore red ones and XO nor AXO were mad about it. And it shouldn't confuse new members if they see another sorority girl in pink - people wear all kinds of tees in all different colors, and new members don't get confused (well, some of them might - teehee!)

As for sexy colors... well, red is the color of passion, and you know what they say about those green M&M's

This is interesting.

At my campus, none of the chapters was ever concerned about wearing their chapter's colors during recruitment or for their bid day shirts. In fact, the only time each chapter "sported" their bid day colors was in the form of balloons that we all carried to the place where the Bid Day celebration was being held.

All we were ever concerned about was that we didn't get the same color bid day shirt as another chapter. GOD FORBID that happen!

Um, excuse me, but back in the 1874 days E. Adeline Curtis was courting with a young Syracuse law student who explicitly told dear, "Dear E. Adeline, pink looks simply lovely on you, and you should make it the flower of your sorority, since you yourself are a delicate little flower. I disagree. It's different on every campus. On our campus but non-Greeks we're known as the Pink sorority, and Delta Phi Epsilon is known as the purple sorority or the "Delta one" or the one with the triangle. I don't think our girls would be too happy with their girls wearing pink on bid day, as I know their girls wouldn't be too happy with us wearing purple. The only problem there is with wearing another sorority's colors on my campus is Phi Sig, because they're colors are the same as our school colors.

I think it's kinda disrespectful to wear another org's colors on bid day, but that's just judging from my campus. Any other colors ok. (example: we had "Phi Mu & Co.", the Tiffany's theme, with teal black and white) AND you'd never see a TKE wearing green or a Delt Sig wearing red when it comes to official stuff. That's just how our campus was.

I guess it is just a campus difference - everyone wears different color shirts for bid day. There are 5 NPC orgs on campus, and they always seem to come up with different colors for tees.

I can understand your personal opinion. But mine is that while a large percentage of my campus may be Greek, no one gives a damn what color t-shirt a Greek is wearing. The non-Greeks are still going to lump them into the "girl wearing a miscellaneous sorority t-shirt and I don't give a damn" category (because there's a heck of a lot more to college and a college campus than the Greeks) and the Greeks are going to hone in on the letters and not even see the color... and my own chapter members are going to KNOW "that's an ADPi shirt--- I should go introduce myself to that new member."
