I can't believe he really explained it to the police that way. He must've been senile.

More importantly...why would IT be danglin' out of his pants in the first place, while he was "killing a chicken"

I am no expert, but when people kill chickens, don't they usually grab it by the neck or something before chopping? Wouldn't he have felt that he was grabbing the wrong thing? My goodness!

Swearing Student Faces Jail Time
North Carolina Teen Says Charge Is Overreaction
POSTED: 1:08 pm EDT October 10, 2004
WILMINGTON, N.C. -- A North Carolina teenager may have to go to jail for using foul language with a high school teacher.
Glenn Gattis and his parents don't deny that he cursed or has had other disciplinary problems at Ashley High School in Wilmington. But they said the misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct is an overreaction.
The 17-year-old Gattis said he became frustrated and used bad language when he got in trouble for being late to class again. He said he was ultimately stopped by deputies working as school resource officers, who gave him a citation for using language meant to provoke violence. He was also suspended for three days.
Gattis' mother said she could understand if her son had to serve detention at school. But he could get up to 30 days in jail. The family has hired a lawyer to fight the charge.
School officials aren't commenting.

11-year-old held up at gunpoint by man demanding 'lunch money'
Wednesday, October 13, 2004
Stephen Hudak
Plain Dealer Reporter
A Cleveland sixth-grader was held up at gunpoint Tuesday morning at an East Side bus stop by a man who demanded his lunch money.
"It's an act of serious desperation," said Cleveland police spokesman Lt. Wayne Drummond. "How much money can you expect to get from an 11-year-old kid on his way to school?"
Gregory Darby had $2 in his pants pocket but said he was so scared, he forgot.
Gregory, a student at Willson Middle School, was confronted as he waited alone at Wade Park Avenue and East 88th Street for a bus to take him the 1.7 miles he otherwise would have to walk to school.
His mother, Chery Darby, said her son takes the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority bus to school because he lives 3/10ths of a mile too close to Willson to ride the school bus and because her 1992 Aerostar van is too unreliable.
If he walks, he crosses vacant lots and passes boarded-up homes and barred stores.
The boy described the gunman to police as a light-skinned black man, about 6 feet 2, 160 pounds, with an Afro and wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
Gregory said the man seized him by the left arm.
"Where do you live?" he asked.
Gregory fibbed. "On 88th."
The man then pointed the gun: "Give me all your lunch money!"
Gregory said he froze, the man cursed him, and ran behind the buildings from which he had appeared. Gregory ran, too, bursting into tears on his way home where his mom was getting ready for work.
He and his mother spent the morning with detectives, scouring mug shots.
Chery Darby said her son is an unlikely target. He dresses the way they live: cheaply.
"Look at his shoes," she said. "They're K-Swiss. They're not Jordans."
Drummond said police would patrol the neighborhood closely before and after school, hoping to calm Gregory's fears and the worries of other neighborhood kids.
"Kids need to feel safe," he said.
::editorial comment:: In a handbasket and on a scholarship; the world is going to hell.

Howard: No Natural Hair!
Cheerleaders, Performance Groups Allegedly Reject Hopefuls with Natural Hair
By Shaleem Thompson
www.blackcollegewire.org
Howard University's tryouts for cheerleading, band and the Ohh-laa-laa dance squad have ended with allegations of discrimination based on hair, body type and criteria other than talent.
"They went around basically telling everyone their imperfections, saying you would have to shave your legs, wax your eyebrows . . ." said one "flashy flags" contender who allegedly received comments from the coordinator about her short, natural hair.
"Hmm -- I don't know what we would do with your hair if you were chosen for the team," coordinator Lauren White said, according to the trainee. Another leader suggested an instant weave.
"The band has to be uniform in terms of looks as well as performance," said band director John Newson. "It does not matter what they do with their hair all year round, but when it is time to perform," straight hair "is the requirement."
For some students, such as band member Marcus Ware, assimilation is an important part of the organization.
"The band requires unity in all aspects, so if someone does not fit that requirement, they would just stand out," Ware said.
However, the forced uniformity does not sit well with others.
"This perpetuates stereotyping in our society [for people] of the African descent and we should allow all types of persons to take part in this activity," said Debra Roberts, a psychology professor.
Band Director Newson's assertion that "relaxed hair is my preference as well as everyone else's" leaves many begging to differ, including acting major Atrice Williams, a sophomore.
"I would think nothing of seeing someone with natural hair actually performing on the flashy flag wavers," Williams said. "I see many of the beautiful black women on the HU campus rocking the natural look, and the style is so common it might be weird not to see that on the squad."
A current flag squad member who requested anonymity said, "It was decided that we should all have straight hair during performances and we don't have a problem with it. It has nothing to do with changing your identity, but just being uniform in appearance."
White, the coordinator, was asked about a heavy student who tried out for the band and said she was shown a size "large" that was too small for her. The student, Shalondra Gardner, said she was given the choice of wearing it or losing weight.
"Being a full-figured woman, I know how it feels to be stereotyped," White said. "I showed them all the three sizes of the uniform, making it clear that it was pre-ordered and this was the requirement. I would never pressure someone to lose weight. The decision was hers and she was welcome to come to practice."
White also said that her statements to the "flashy flags" contender about hair were misinterpreted. She said she told tryouts that the band requires uniformity in all aspects, so that for performances everyone is required to have straight hair. If the tryout were chosen, she would have to put in an instant weave or a wig piece. It was not said in a downgrading way, White said, maintaining that the school was not trying to influence personal hair choices.
Newson denied size discrimination in the band's dance groups, saying the reality was that uniforms are French cut and must be worn tastefully.
Shaleem Thompson is a student at Howard University who writes for The Hilltop.

Woman Allegedly Steals Boyfriend's Ashes
PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) - Sheriff's deputies have arrested a woman for digging up her dead boyfriend's ashes from a Columbia County cemetery more than 10 years ago and drinking the beer that was buried with him, possibly out of spite for his family.
Karen Stolzmann, now 44, was arrested Tuesday in a case Columbia County Detective Wayne Smith calls ``twisted and bizarre.''
Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe De Cecco said Thursday he would likely determine this week if possession charges should be filed in his county since the urn was found at Stolzmann's Sheboygan home. A call to the Columbia County district attorney's office was not immediately returned Thursday.
Stolzmann has already been charged with a misdemeanor count of concealing stolen property.
Michael Hendrickson, 27, died in 1992 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His family contacted authorities three weeks ago because they found out his remains had been stolen.
An exhumation revealed Hendrickson's cremated remains were missing from Cambria Cemetery in Cambria. Beer and cigarettes that were buried with him were also missing.
Sheriff's deputies investigated and were led to Stolzmann. Detectives searched her home and found her hiding in the shower.
The remains, located in her garage, had ``identifiable things to make us believe they're (Hendrickson's),'' Smith said.
Some of Hendrickson's memorabilia was also recovered, but Smith believes Stolzmann drank the beer buried with the remains.
